On 18 June, the St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering was honoring Vsevolod Vladimirovich Inchik, DSc in Engineering, Professor at the SPbGASU Department of Chemistry, Advisor to the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences, full member of the Petrovsky Academy of Sciences and Arts, creator of the unique St Petersburg Brick History Museum.
On 14 June, Vsevolod Vladimirovich turned 95 years old. He considers it the double anniversary, since he began teaching at SPbGASU in 1964 - 60 years ago.
As noted by Elena Romanova, Head of the SPbGASU Scientific and Technical Library, where the anniversary celebration took place, Vsevolod Vladimirovich’s whole life is connected with our city and our university.
The hero of the day was addressed by Irina Lugovskaia, Vice-Rector for Youth Policy, who read out the congratulations from Evgeny Rybnov, the SPbGASU Rector: “Along with your fruitful scientific and pedagogical activities, you have devoted a lot of time and effort to collecting and researching wall ceramics. While working at the Department of Chemistry, you won the recognition of colleagues, the respect and love of students, you were able to ignite in them a fire for knowledge, search, research, captivate them with your ideas and find helpers and like-minded people in them. Thanks to your enthusiasm, work, and patience, the unique St Petersburg Brick History Museum has appeared at SPbGASU. Opened in 1991, first at the Department of Chemistry as a small exhibition, it has turned into a full-fledged museum with an excellent exhibition, which is in demand among specialists, students and citizens, which operates on a new site and has about 400 examples of wall ceramics. You devote a lot of time and effort to writing monographs. “Brick St Petersburg in the 18th–19th centuries”, “Brick outfit of Nevsky Prospekt”, “Museum of St Petersburg Brick” have already been published. They present brick manufacturing technologies in the 18th–19th centuries, the evolution of its dimensions, methods for assessing the quality of brick factories, research and physical and mechanical characteristics of wall ceramics, which have been in use for more than 200 years.”.
Irina Lugovskaia presented Vsevolod Vladimirovich with a valuable gift and gratitude “for many years of impeccable work at the university, fruitful scientific and creative activities in collecting, studying and popularizing the history of the production of wall ceramics in St Petersburg and in connection with the 95th anniversary of birth”.
A diploma for dedication to the profession from the Association of University Museums of St Petersburg was presented by Elena Klimenko, director of the SPbGASU History Information Center.
Warm congratulations came from students and colleagues of the hero of the day.
Vsevolod Vladimirovich Inchik presented the Scientific and Technical Library with the book “SPbGASU Museum of St Petersburg Brick,” written in collaboration with his wife Tatiana Inchik (Inchik, V.V. SPbGASU Museum of St Petersburg Brick / V.V. Inchik, T.V. Inchik. - St Petersburg: SPbGASU, 2024. - 152 p.; 100 ill.).
According to the author, the book talks about the formation of the museum and the people who helped create it.
Until this weekend, the SPbGASU STL is exhibiting works by Vsevolod Inchik in the rare book hall.
