At the interuniversity scientific and practical conference "Three Architectural Schools 2023" at the St Petersburg A. L. Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design, the winners of the interuniversity exhibition-competition of students' diploma works were awarded. Among the winners are the works of SPbGASU students.
The exhibition-competition featured more than 70 diploma works of students of Stieglitz Academy, St Petersburg Repin Academy of Arts, SPbGASU and the Department of Architecture of the St Petersburg Mining University. All of them were presented in the Great Exhibition Hall of the Academy.
In the Best Architectural Project category, Anastasia Pustotina's project of a medical research center in the suburbs of St Petersburg (supervisors: Oleg Romanov, Igor Demenov, Elena Voitsekhovskaya and Aleksandr Veshnyakov) took second place.
III place was given to the project of a residential building on the site of the exhibition complex "Lenexpo" by Karim Thermos (supervisors: Natalia Yass, Nina Dryzhapolova and Aleksandr Veshnyakov).
In the nomination "The best project of the architectural environment", the Grand Prix was awarded to the project "Formation of the tourist environment on the territory of the forts "Shanets", "Reef", the reserve "Western Kotlin"" by Anastasia Mishina (supervisor: Aleksandra Eremeeva).
“The problem of the development of historical territories and their inclusion in the urban structure was the sphere of my interests throughout my studies at the university. The dissertation, devoted to the development of the territories of fortifications, was the result of this interest. In my work, I considered the forts "Shanets", "Reef", located in a picturesque place - on the Rif Spit of Kotlin Island. The cultural peculiarity of the territories is complemented by a valuable natural environment, since the territory uniting the forts is the Western Kotlin reserve. In the design solution, I provide for the creation of thematic routes around the territory, the placement of the necessary tourist infrastructure, subdivided according to the length of stay on the Rif Spit. An important task was the expression by means of design and architecture of the synthesis of cultural and natural values. Thus, a hotel was created in one of the batteries of the Shanets fort and the Sunset Pavilions on the Reef fort. As a result, the design solution is aimed at the functioning of fortifications for the benefit of society in modern conditions. I am grateful to Aleksandra Fedorovna Eremeeva for her professional contribution to the work and I am glad that the result gets appreciated at the professional competitions,” said Anastasia.
“I worked with Anastasia with great interest. Her project is an example of passionate work on the chosen topic, the search for the most successful synthesis of modern function and historical and cultural fortification heritage. It is a combination of hard work and creative intuition. I also want to note the high level of architectural graphics of the work, which best conveys the idea of the project. As a supervisor, I am very glad that I supported the author at the right time and gave the necessary guidance!”, commented Aleksandra Eremeeva, Associate Professor at the SPbGASU Department of Architectural Design.
According to Aleksandra Eremeeva, this work has already been noted by the professional community: in September 2022, at the annual review competition of diploma projects of the Interregional Public Organization for the Promotion of Architectural Education (MOOSAO), the work received a diploma from the Union of Designers of Russia. The Association of Architectural Workshops AAW selected the work for publication in the "Architectural Yearbook of St Petersburg" (the publication includes three diploma projects of SPbGASU graduates in 2022).
Second place in this nomination was taken by the work "Public Space as an Element of Transport Infrastructure in the Urban Environment on the Example of the City of Krasnoyarsk" by Anton Panchenko (supervisor: Andrey Surovenkov).
III place went to "Yalkala Cultural and Educational Eco-Complex" by Polina Yudinsky (supervised by Denis Romanov).
In the nomination “The best architectural and restoration project”, the second place was taken by the work “Historical Exemple Cities of Russia” by Yuliana Davydova (supervisors: Sergey Sementsov and Nadezhda Akulova), III place went to the study “Creative Legacy of the Academician of Architecture Maryan Maryanovich Peretyatkovich” by Alena Volokhova (supervisor: Nina Petukhova).
In the nomination "The best architectural and urban planning solution" I place went to the project of the university youth complex as part of the interuniversity campus in the city of Ufa by Kamilla Mukhamedzyanova (supervisor: Oleg Fedorov).
“The design of such facilities is relevant due to the overcrowding of existing dormitories and the need to improve the quality of the living environment for nonresident students. Particular attention is paid to the formation of the architectural and artistic image of the campus. The inspiration for its creation was the thesis about the combination of logical and creative principles inherent in every person,” said Camilla.
“The theme of the graduation project, as well as the venue, was not chosen by chance. In Ufa, there is a program for the development of a local university cluster, and this site is considered promising for development with objects of the Bashkir State University. The conditions of this site, such as access to the embankment, view characteristics, surrounding buildings, cultural heritage sites, made it possible to form a powerful and justified urban planning concept for the development of the territory. In addition to describing the relevance of the topic and site, in the theoretical part of the thesis, the history and development of housing for students were studied in depth, a modern typology of residential student rooms was developed and proposed, taking into account the multi-level education, individual characteristics of residents and modern operational requirements. The image of the residential building and the volume of the media library towering above it simultaneously transmits both the power, the fundamental nature of the scientific and educational sphere for a person and the state, and the traditions of the region in the materials used, details, ornamentation of facade solutions,” commented Oleg Fedorov.
III place in this nomination was taken by the project of a multifunctional complex in the structure of the Lenexpo quarter by Polina Eroshenko (supervisors: Vladimir Linov, Vladlen Lyavdansky and Natalya Novokhodskaya).
“In my work, I was guided by the surrounding context, social preferences and comfortable conditions for a person, which in fact is much more important than the architects' own desires and preferences,” said Polina Eroshenko.
Polina is currently a first-year master student and works at the Evgeny Gerasimov & Partners architectural studio. The student is sure that in such a unique city as St Petersburg, it is important to design modern and high-quality architecture, taking into account the surrounding context, and think about how this will affect the appearance of the city as a whole both in ten and in a hundred years.
SPbGASU representatives also participated in the conference. Dean of the Faculty of Architecture Ekaterina Vozniak took part in the grand opening of the conference and awarding the winners, together with the assistant at the Department of Architectural and Urban-Planning Heritage Maria Kolesova made a scientific report "Historical Windows of St Petersburg". Scientific reports were also presented by Associate Professor at the Department of Architectural and Urban-Planning Heritage Nina Petukhova, Associate Professor at the Department of Architectural Environment Design Yan Korzhempo, students Omar Dadush and Elza Sharipova.
