On 10–13 April, the St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering held the National (All-Russian) Scientific and Technical Conference "Prospects for Modern Construction".

The event was prepared by the Organizing Committee led by the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering Anton Gaido.

In his welcoming speech to the participants, SPbGASU Rector Evgeny Rybnov expressed confidence that “the exchange of theoretical knowledge and practical experience on topical issues of research and innovation in the field of modern construction will make it possible to find effective solutions to current and future tasks, involve students in science, organize discussion and exchange of experience between leading and young researchers” and wished the participants successful and fruitful work.

The conference was held in a face-to-face format using remote technologies. It was attended by more than two hundred speakers from different regions, including master's students, postgraduate students, young and leading scientists, including representatives of scientific schools of the SPbGASU Faculty of Civil Engineering, heads of industry companies.

The conference program included breakout sessions with presentations of the results of scientific research in 11 thematic areas: roads, bridges and tunnels; architectural and engineering constructions; geotechnics; reinforced concrete and masonry constructions; information technology; mathematics; metal and timber constructions; construction management; structural mechanics; technology of construction materials and metrology; and construction technologies.

The work of the section "Technology of Construction Materials and Metrology" began with a welcoming speech by DSc in Engineering, Professor, Head of the SPbGASU Department of TCM&M Yury Pukharenko.

DSc in Engineering, Professor, Head of the Department of Metal and Timber Constructions Aleksandr Chernykh made a presentation on the study of the strength and durability of joints of load-bearing glued timber constructions on domestic melamine-urea-formaldehyde adhesives with the development of an accelerated test method. The author proposes new technologies and materials for the construction of timber structures, which will make it possible to construct, among other things, prefabricated modular buildings.

PhD of Engineering Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Construction Management Sergey Bovteev spoke about the methodology of 4D modeling in the construction of monolithic and precast-monolithic buildings, emphasizing that domestic developers are ready to offer modern software products to solve these problems. The author outlined the main directions for improving programs that provide control and support of the construction process.

The meeting of the section of roads, bridges and tunnels was opened by Vladimir Bystrov, PhD of Engineering Sciences, Professor at the Department of Roads, Bridges and Tunnels, head of one of scientific schools at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, with a report "Actual problems of technical feasibility and ensuring the operational reliability of urban underground transport and pedestrian tunnels.". The following areas have been identified that need solving: development of effective technologies for the restoration of waterproofing of tunnels; development of ways to improve the performance of tunnels without blocking traffic on highways; introduction of information modeling technologies in the development of new construction projects and complex reconstruction of structures.

Based on the results of the conference, it is planned to publish a collection of materials of speakers in thematic areas with subsequent indexing in the RSCI and publishing in the scientific electronic library elibrary.ru.
