On 28 March, St Petersburg State Electrotechnical University "LETI" launched the International Contest of Young Designers and Architects "LETI Campus Design". SPbGASU is one of its partners, and the grand opening took place in a public space created according to the project with which SPbGASU students Marina Luchnikova and Anna Sorokina won the previous contest "LETI, Academic Environment of the Future" two years ago.

“The development of some universities in St Petersburg is constrained by their limited territories and bad technical condition of the campuses. We have to look for reserves for development through the reconstruction of old buildings and the improvement of the courtyards of historical buildings. Therefore, the practice of student contest for reconstruction projects is very important,” said Vladimir Linov, Associate Professor at the SPbGASU Department of Architectural Design.

In his opinion, in Russia, as well as throughout the world, higher education needs to be improved in two directions. First, in addition to lecture halls, universities should open innovation centers where students, together with teachers and practitioners, will participate in the development of real projects in their field. Secondly, universities organize centers for independent activity of students both within the framework of the specialties they receive and of an interdisciplinary nature, which also serve for communication and cultural development. This contributes to the training of specialists with a broad outlook. These trends are in line with the competitive practice of "LETI", supported by SPbGASU.

“It's been two years since we received the first large landing of SPbGASU students. New recreations have become one of the favorite places at the university for our students. Today, we actively use the spaces designed by them for student events, master classes, the student scientific society holds open lectures here. In January, the renovated recreations became the platform for a popular inventive hackathon,” said Ksenia Diogenova, Head of the Department for Educational and Social Work of St Petersburg Electrotechnical University “LETI”.

Details about the new contest for the reorganization of the university space, in which SPbGASU students are once again participating, can be found on the contest website.
