The issue of recycling and sorting waste is relevant all over the world. The emergence of new types of waste, the formation of huge landfills and spontaneous dumps negatively affect the planet's environment. This problem attracted the attention of Valeria Supranovich, Associate Professor at the SPbGASU Department of Architectural Design, who is sure that industrial waste processing facilities can be integrated into the urban environment.

“The appearance of such objects may have not utilitarian, but architectural and artistic value. I realized this during a trip to Japan in 2013. As part of a grant for the implementation of research work by SPbGASU scientific and pedagogical workers in 2023, I am doing research work "Principles of urban planning and architectural and design organization of waste sorting and waste processing facilities in Russia," said Valeria Supranovich.

The research work included the analysis of a large volume of publications, the study of examples of waste sorting and waste processing facilities in Russia. It was necessary to identify their characteristic functional planning and architectural and artistic trends, as well as social and environmental mechanisms that influence the choice of sites for their placement and the architectural solutions of such structures. Therefore, one of the stages of work was the study of the historical experience of waste management in our country, the impact of the economic and social policy of the state on these processes. The results obtained are systematized and presented in textual and graphic form.

According to Valeria Supranovich, the main result of her research is the identification of the principles of architectural and urban planning organization in the construction of waste sorting and recycling facilities, which are specific and promising for our country.
