From 17 to 20 October, the III International Construction Championship was held at the Expoforum Convention and Exhibition Center. SPbGASU students became participants and winners of the student league. Teachers from our university acted as experts for the St Petersburg team.

The head of the Department of Construction Management, Roman Motylev, and the Professor at the Department of Construction Management, Aleksandr Rudenko, evaluated the championship participants in the “Curtain Facade Systems” category. According to Aleksandr Rudenko, the championship provided an opportunity to enrich personal experience in the implementation of expert procedures, communicate with the best representatives of the construction industry and educational community of Russia, and confirm the high status of SPbGASU.

“Undoubtedly, this is not only a competition of professionals, but also a demonstration of Russia’s capabilities to organize and conduct forums of such a large scale,” said Aleksandr Rudenko.

Director of the Laboratory of Digital Building Information Models Denis Nizhegorodtsev and assistant at the Department of Informatics Nikita Gorovoy were experts in the individual nomination “Information Modeling” and prepared two participants who took sixth and third places, respectively.

Denis Nizhegorodtsev noted the scale of the championship, the high level of its organization, and the coordinated work of the St Petersburg team. “It was a pleasure to represent the city, to fight for victory with teams of construction giants,” said the representative of our university.

Denis Nizhegorodtsev also headed the expert jury of the school league in the “Construction Technologies” category. Schoolchildren developed proposals for the reconstruction of the entrance lobby and assembly hall of the St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering at 10, Serpukhovskaya Street, and demonstrated them using the Renga software package.

The expert on the jury of the school league in the category “Construction Technologies” was the Dean of the SPbGASU Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services Inna Sukhanova. As Inna Ivanovna emphasized, she was especially interested in participating in the assessment - since the task was based on the information model of the SPbGASU educational building, completed by our students. Various criteria were assessed: level of proficiency in the software package, innovativeness of the proposed solutions, etc. Ten teams from different cities participated in the finals.

“I was pleased that different, often non-standard, options were proposed. The guys creatively approached the proposed problem and confidently defended their solutions. These schoolchildren have already chosen their future specialty and plan to enter construction universities. We will be happy to have such applicants,” said the dean.

In the individual nomination “Labor Safety”, the jury included the head of the SPbGASU Department of Technosphere Safety, director of the “Smart Labor” training site Andrey Nikulin. “This is a grandiose event, very useful for combining work training programs in specialized disciplines with the tasks of the championship. We are already solving them with students in practical classes. A significant number of professional contacts have been acquired with specialists working at Russian and joint ventures with foreigners - from the Akkuyu NPP in Turkey to the Amur Gas Processing Plant. Particularly memorable was the visit to the 79th floor of the Lakhta Center, organized by representatives of PJSC Gazprom,” shared Andrey Nikulin.

In the individual nomination “Construction Control”, the third was fourth-year bachelor's student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering Ivan Serebryakov. According to Ivan, the competition lasted two days, eight hours each. The tasks were varied - from the express preparation of as-built documentation based on the provided working documentation and analysis of the correctness of acceptance certificates, work logs, to going to an impromptu construction site in order to identify defects in various building structures in the allotted time. There were also creative tasks, during which it was required to independently detect defects from photo reports from objects and give personal recommendations for eliminating them or provide solutions to non-standard situations on the construction site.

“Having studied at the Department of Construction Management, I understand the importance of construction control. I wanted to increase my knowledge, learn something new, and I did,” said Ivan.

In the individual nomination “Best Ecologist”, third place was awarded to fourth-year bachelor's student of the Faculty of Automobile and Road Building Valeria Vishnyakova.

In the individual nomination “Design of a technological part”, third place went to first-year master’s student of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services Svetlana Nikitina.

The International Construction Championship is an annual event that combines a competition among professional specialists in the field of industrial construction, a business program and an exhibition. It was established by the Ministry of Construction of Russia and the State Corporation Rosatom on 20 February, 2020 and is included in the plan of annual events for the implementation of the Concept of interregional and cross-border cooperation of the CIS member states for the period until 2030, as well as in the presidential platform “Russia – a country of opportunities”.
