A first-degree laureate diploma in the Bachelor's degree category in the Urban Planning nomination, as well as a special diploma from the leadership of the Council of Chief Architects of the RF Regions and Municipal Entities named after A. V. Kuzmin were awarded to the work “Revitalization of the territory of the St Petersburg Great Sea Port" (project authors: Arina Panchenko, Arina Suvorova, Anna Nosova, Maria Pogodaeva; project supervisors: associate professors at the Department of Urban Planning Mikhail Vilensky and Ksenia Veretennikova).
“Along with the news about the city’s plans to move the Big Sea Port from St Petersburg to the outports of the Gulf of Finland - to Ust-Luga, the question of rational use of the vacated territories and the prospects for further development of the adjacent depressed industrial environment arose. The study area is unique and currently has enormous weight for the city: industrial and historical context, recreational potential - 46 kilometers of currently inaccessible coastline, proximity to the historical center and the southwestern city periphery,” said Arina Suvorova.
The author reported that for an area of 2,100 hectares, it would be preferrable to avoid the fate of forming typical “dormitory” neighborhoods, and instead form a new urban polycenter, which is both original and oriented not only to the population of nearby microdistricts.
An important aspect of the development strategy was the disclosure of the transport, business, recreational, cultural and educational potential of the territory, as well as the design of a high-quality environment with an emphasis on the development of yacht transport.

The work consists of three chapters. In the first chapter, an analysis of the territory was carried out, as a result of which its problems were identified. In the second chapter, an urban planning concept for a medical district was developed. The project proposal reflects the techniques used to create a sustainable urban environment. In the third chapter, a recovery and rehabilitation center was designed, located within the boundaries of the medical cluster.
“I would like to express my gratitude to our workshop and the teachers of the Department of Urban Planning, who supported and believed in us. They pointed out errors, helped eliminate them, and advised us until we discussed and understood everything. They inspired us and helped us!” – noted Anastasia Kaledina.

“The program for the development of the area as the proposed city-wide center of the new city of Novosaratovka is based on the disclosure of such an important component of a comfortable urban environment as the public one. It includes the functional saturation of the territory with objects of periodic and episodic use, taking into account the needs of various categories of the population of Novosaratovka,” said Andrey Zima.
