Lecture by Andrey Surovenkov about the university and its graduates

At the invitation of the Committee for the Improvement of St Petersburg, SPbGASU took part in the VDNKh season “Brilliant Petersburg”. This thematic season, dedicated to the ceremonial appearance of the Northern capital, was organized at the stand of our city as part of the International Exhibition and Forum “Russia” from 21 May to 2 June.

Dean of the Faculty of Architecture Ekaterina Vozniak and Head of the Department of Architectural Design Andrey Surovenkov gave lectures about the university and its famous graduates. Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs, Associate Professor at the Department of Architectural Design Zoya Aksenova, Associate Professor at the Department of Architectural Design Olga Belousova, students Alisa Tlatova and Arina Sukhacheva conducted master classes on St Petersburg architecture.

As Zoya Aksenova said, the participants of the master class “Become an Architect of St Petersburg” used a ready-made model of the historical center of St Petersburg to create a system of blocks with different buildings. On the basis, the main historical monuments and dominant features of the city were located in advance, roads and green areas were designated. The part of the sub-model where visitors could work was not filled with construction. In this part, it was necessary to form blocks from the proposed standard conditional models of buildings of various typologies, taking into account the urban planning features of the historical part of the Northern capital. Guests of the exhibition of all ages were involved in this work with interest - everyone wanted to join the architecture of St Petersburg and feel like the creator of the city.

“But the most popular master class in our part of the exhibition, for which there was a queue of adults and children, was “Architectural Cuisine”. Participants in this master class created constructive models of architectural objects - a bridge or a skyscraper - using pasta of various shapes, colors, sizes, and also plasticine. To convey the characteristic silhouettes of the proposed objects, handouts were prepared: photos, plans, facades, sections. A simplified image of the selected object was made from pasta using plasticine connecting elements. The imagination of the participants was simply limitless! From simple structures to very complex bridge trusses. Almost all participants took their creations with them,” said Zoya Aksenova.
