The SPbGASU delegation, led by RAACS Corresponding Member, Professor at the Department of Geotechnics Rashid Mangushev, represented Russia at the international geotechnical workshop Geotechnical Engineering for Cultural Heritage (GEO-SAKURA-2023). The workshop was held in the ancient capital of Japan - the city of Nara.
The organizer was the Geo-Research Institute, city of Osaka, Japan. The scientific director of this organization is the Chairman of the Asian Technical Committee (ATC19), Honorary Doctor of SPbGASU, Professor Yoshinori Iwasaki.
The workshop, which was supported by the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), was attended by representatives of Japan, China, South Korea, India, Kazakhstan, Taiwan, Poland and Russia.
The hosts were Japanese research institutes with a wealth of experience in construction in difficult geotechnical conditions in seismic and alluvial areas.
SPbGASU delegates made four reports on the areas of scientific research of the Department of Geotechnics, which aroused great interest among specialists. The delegation of our university spoke about the methods and tools for spatial (3D) monitoring of objects - architectural monuments. The latest results in the field of creating a domestic software package based on numerical simulation by finite element methods were announced.
At the closing ceremony of the conference, Yoshinori Iwasaki emphasized that the preservation of the authenticity of cultural and architectural monuments requires the cohesive work of all teams, the creation of favorable conditions for the exchange of experience and the development of geotechnical schools.
