Students of the Department of Technosphere Safety of the SPbGASU Faculty of Automobile and Road Building became winners of the III round of the annual All-Russian Student Olympiad on Life Safety, which took place at the N. E. Bauman Moscow State Technical University on 15–17 May.
The Olympiad was participated by 51 students from 17 universities of seven Russian regions. The SPbGASU team led by Associate Professor at the Department of Technosphere Safety Aleksandr Glukhanov included third-year bachelor's students Valeria Vishnyakova, Danila Markov and Ulyana Baranova.
Participants were offered a written task for knowledge and understanding of the main provisions, terms and concepts of the discipline "Life Safety", for the ability to solve problems of increased complexity. One and a half academic hours were allotted for solving the written task.
At the Olympiad, it was also required to complete homework in the format of defending a student scientific project. As part of the innovative educational project "Modern educational technologies to ensure labor safety in the construction industry" (2022–2026), the SPbGASU team presented a study on the topic "Development of innovative methods for teaching work at height using NOITOM technology". The students told the jury about the innovative training in safe working at heights using the NOITOM motion capture system used at the Vysota training site. The scientific project aroused great interest among the jury and those present at the defense.
According to the results of the Olympiad, the SPbGASU team took third place in the team championship.
Team leader Aleksandr Glukhanov was awarded a diploma of an expert judge.
According to Valeria Vishnyakova, the Olympiad turned out to be quite difficult: many strong teams participated, the competition was high, but it helped to gain useful experience.
According to Danila Markov, there were positive impressions from the Olympiad. “I advise all students to participate in such events, as this will allow them to prove themselves, to realize their scientific potential,” he said.
Ulyana Baranova emphasized: “It was a tremendous experience for me, an opportunity to test my knowledge and see how accomplished a specialist you are. I would be happy to participate again!”
“Participation in the All-Russian Olympiads is very motivating and inspiring for students. They see that their hard work is not just happening - there are positive reviews, there are awards at all-Russian competitions. Participation in such events is useful, especially in the direction of the future activities of students: firstly, it is the experience of public speaking and defending one's work, and secondly, immersion in the scientific atmosphere and broadening one's horizons in the chosen specialty. For teachers, this is an opportunity to discuss areas of scientific activity with colleagues, share experience, promising developments and expand cooperation with other universities,” said Aleksandr Glukhanov.
