Project by Maxim Kolosov. Open in high resolution
The work by Maxim Kolosov (fourth-year bachelor student) "Residential quarter and its elements" was awarded the Grand Prix in the nomination "Urban planning", profile "Planning of urban and rural areas, urban complexes" (bachelor's degree). Maxim's supervisors are associate professors at the Department of Urban Planning Mikhail Vilensky and Ksenia Veretennikova, assistant Elena Karpenko.
“In modern residential areas, people are often surrounded by an environment in which it is uncomfortable to stay, there are no recreational areas - only high-rise "anthills" are everywhere. A person in such an environment feels depressed, ”says Maxim Kolosov.
The design site is located in the Zanevsky urban settlement of the Vsevolozhsky district of the Leningrad region, adjoining Leningradskaya street from the north, and the Okkervil river from the south. The student sought to organize a comfortable environment for human life and movement within the quarter, to integrate various public and recreational spaces into residential development, to ensure their harmonious interaction with each other.
Project by Ilona Lieberman. Open in high resolution
The work by Ilona Lieberman (first year master student) "The project of a multifunctional complex in the structure of the Rzhevka-Porohovye quarter" received the Grand Prix in the nomination "Architecture" (master's degree). Ilona's supervisors are associate professors at the Department of Architectural Design Vladlen Lyavdansky, Vladimir Linov and Natalia Novokhodskaya.
Ilona submitted her bachelor's thesis to the competition. The design site is located in the east of St Petersburg on the banks of the Okhtinsky razliv. Today it is an industrial area. Despite the poor infrastructure and transport security, the site has great potential in the future. The author of the project proposes to create a residential quarter here, including a multifunctional public center in its structure. Inside the quarter, a comfortable environment is provided that meets all the needs of residents. The multifunctional complex serves as the main public space of the quarter and combines several functional areas: shops, a business center, a cinema, an exhibition space and a library.
“Currently I am studying in the first year of the master's program in the field of "Architecture". The plans include the successful writing and defense of a master's thesis, as well as participation in subsequent architectural competitions,” said Ilona.
Project by Olga Rozova. Open in high resolution
First-year master student Olga Rozova with the project “Landscape organization of the territory of the former Cloth Manufactory of Baron A. L. Stieglitz in Ivangorod” became the winner of the diploma of the 1st degree in the nomination “Urban Planning” (master’s degree) (supervised by Maria Granstrem, Head of the Department of History and Theory of Architecture).
“Certainly, it was a joy to learn about the high appreciation of my project. For me, this is an important milestone in learning, ”shared Olga.
The current topic of revitalization of former industrial areas is of great interest to landscape architects. Many territories are waiting for new use concepts. One of such problem areas is the complex of the former Cloth Manufactory of Baron A. L. Stieglitz in Ivangorod, Leningrad Region. Its specificity is that industrial buildings back in the 1950s were redesigned for residential buildings, but the territory does not yet meet modern ideas about a comfortable environment.
The author of the project proposed a landscape organization of space along the old, dry bed of the Narva River. This place will be visited not only by residents of the nearest microdistricts, but also by tourists. Recreation areas have been designed, a cafe-library is located in the former lock building, and art objects emphasize the memory of the place.
The main users of the linear space between residential buildings along Tekstilshchikov Street should be local residents. Olga suggested original paving combined with green stripes. A rich plant assortment is selected taking into account the all-season decorative effect.
Along Pastorov's Street, it is planned to organize a zone for festive events and fairs, a space for relaxation with a rowan garden, as well as a playground.
A characteristic feature of this territory is a rather steep relief, approaching residential buildings from the side of Pastorov's Street. Previously, a channel was dug here, which was historically used for water wheels. The semantics of the place is inspired by the plant composition "Green Waterfall", which is located on the slope. To create the effect of movement and lightness in this composition, the author used a variety of cereal perennials, coniferous shrubs serve as the basis for the plant frame of the composition.
The main point of attraction is the former gas tank, which will become an information center. A square is formed around it, three rays approach it. There will be a public transport stop, a cafe with a terrace and an entrance to the territory of the former flax mill, the concept of re-profiling of which is also under development.
Scientific supervisors of the best course projects were awarded diplomas of laureates.
