The results of the competition of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences (RAACS) for medals and diplomas for the best scientific and creative works in the field of architecture, urban planning and construction sciences have been announced.
The silver medal for the best scientific work in the field of architecture went to Sergey Sementsov, professor at the SPbGASU Department of Architectural and Urban Planning Heritage, and Nadezhda Akulova, associate professor at the same department, as the authors of the book “The Lost Temples of St Petersburg. Experience in architectural reconstruction". Members of the editorial board of the publication also received awards.
The book was published with the support of the Council for Church Architecture of the St Petersburg Union of Architects. The sponsor was the Foundation for Assistance to the Restoration of Historical and Cultural Objects in St Petersburg.
The unique edition is based on graduation projects of students of the Department of Architectural and Urban Planning Heritage, dedicated to the study, restoration and reconstruction of the lost St Petersburg churches. According to the author-compiler Sergey Sementsov, the book can become a guide to the revival of important architectural dominants of the city on the Neva.
The presentation of the book and the exhibition of projects were held with great success in the St Petersburg House of Architects and in the exhibition hall of the SPbGASU Faculty of Architecture.
