«Integrated development of the territory of the peripheral region of the St Petersburg agglomeration on the example of the village of Novosaratovka». Isometric view of the design site. Author Andrey Zima

The work "Integrated development of the territory of the peripheral region of the St Petersburg agglomeration on the example of the village of Novosaratovka", the author of which is a bachelor's degree graduate, first-year master's student Andrey Zima (supervisors: assistant at the department of urban planning Viktoria Makarova and senior lecturer at the department of urban planning Anastasia Galaktionova) was awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Union of Architects of the Republic of Tatarstan.

On the first, most large-scale part of his graduation project, Andrey Zima worked together with his groupmates Maria Kolobova, Arina Shilo and Nionella Urvan. It touches upon the complex and urgent issue of the development of settlements on the periphery of the Northern capital. Using the example of the village of Novosaratovka, the authors proposed a strategy and concept for the development of a comfortable urban environment for a new mini-polis, a new pearl on the right bank of the Neva. As part of the overall concept, the students were divided into four design areas. Andrey chose a site adjacent to the Oktyabrskaya Embankment and the industrial park Utkina Zavod.

The district development program is based on the disclosure of such an important component of a favorable urban environment as the public one. It is planned to create a multifunctional city center of the new "town" Novosaratovka with a system of clusters.

“I am very pleased that the work was noted at the competition. I want to express my deep gratitude to my supervisors – Anastasia Alekseevna Galaktionova, Viktoria Sergeevna Makarova, as well as associate professor Mikhail Yuryevich Vilensky. The problems raised in the FQW became the basis for me to determine the topic of my master's thesis,” Andrey said.

The department of architectural environment design submitted nine FQWs at the competition. All of them were awarded diplomas of the first degree.

“Among the theses of undergraduates, which I released as a supervisor in 2022, the work of Anastasia Mishina is especially dear to me. We have developed a fruitful dialogue between the student and the teacher. Not everything turned out easily and immediately, a huge creative search was performed, Anastasia grew up as a specialist before my eyes. Anastasia repeatedly visited the design site at different times of the day and year to get a feel for the place, to find the right solutions for harmony between nature and architecture, between history and modernity.

We took a certain risk by proposing to build a hotel into the fortification structure of Shanets fort, and organize light pavilions on top of Reef fort. Anastasia did this with the help of discreet design techniques, without violating the historical structure and silhouette. I am very glad that our result was highly appreciated not only within the walls of SPbGASU, but also at the MOOSAO competition, where it received a diploma from the Union of Designers of Russia,” Aleksandra Eremeeva said.
