Students from Zambia, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Guinea and other South African countries study at SPbGASU
In Sochi, the Russia-Africa Summit completed its work; more than fifty countries took part in it. Within the framework of working meetings, the RF Minister of Science and Higher Education Mikhail Kotyukov signed an Agreement on the mutual recognition of education, qualifications and academic degrees with Angola and a Memorandum of Cooperation in Higher Education with Uganda.
Students from many countries study at the university
“We expect further expansion of diverse humanitarian cooperation between the Russian Federation and Africa, primarily in the field of higher education and scientific research. Opportunities and ways to increase the number of students from the countries of the African continent in Russian universities for the coming years are being worked out,” noted Mikhail Kotyukov, RF Minister of Science and Higher Education.
In the framework of the national project “Education”, the share of international students should double by 2024.
According to the press service of the RF Ministry of Science and Higher Education, altogether, nearly 1920 students from 49 countries of Africa were placed to Russian universities in 2019 within the frame of the quota.
“St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering opens doors for international students every year; that includes young people from African countries. We have 35 students from 17 African countries, including Algeria, Egypt, Zambia, Congo, Cote D Ivoire, Libya, Tunisia, Nigeria and others. The agreements signed at the summit, of course, simplifies enrollment at Russian universities,” says Yevgeny I. Rybnov, Rector of SPbGASU.
Reviews of foreign students about SPbGASU
We asked students from Africa to say a few words about the summit and how they study at SPbGASU.
2nd grade student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering Ndebele Everton arrived in St. Petersburg from Zambia.
"I am glad about the results of the summit in Sochi; it is good to know that relations between the countries are developing. I'm happy for the guys from Angola, because now it will be easier for them to come to study in Russia. When I was looking for a university, I chose St. Petersburg because of its architecture. First, I studied Russian at Polytechnic University; then, a friend from Morocco advised me to enroll at SPbGASU. I feel comfortable in Russia: friendly, polite people, everything is fine,” Ndebele Everton shared his impressions".
Lusakku Kish from Congo studies at the 4th grade of the faculty of civil engineering of the St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering..
"Unfortunately, there are not too many universities in Africa; there is no way to enroll exactly where you want, so I came to study in Russia. I have to admit, it is very difficult for me to study in Russian. After I get a Bachelor’s degree, I want to continue my studies in a Master’s degree program. After that I’ll leave for Congo; I’m expected to do practical training at our construction company Socofran,” said Lusakku Kish".
Dano Angelo Momei Yann Rodrigue from Côte d'Ivoire, a 3rd grade student of the faculty of civil engineering, enrolled at SPbGASU on the recommendation of his parents.
"I wanted to get a higher education in civil engineering. An acquaintance of my parents successfully graduated from SPbGASU, so my parents advised me to go to this university. Two of my acquaintances study at SPbGASU. I like the university teachers, the curriculum. In our country, Russian education is highly appreciated. A lot of guys from my country come to study in Russia. After studying for a Master’s degree program, I plan to work in my homeland,” Dano Angelo Momei Yann Rodrigue said".
