Andrey Anokhin, on behalf of the St Petersburg Committee for the Arctic Affairs, presented letters of gratitude for a comprehensive approach to engineering to the authors of the projects they especially liked, noting the importance of competitive proposals for the future development of the Arctic regions of Russia. “One of the priorities of the state policy for the development of the Arctic zone is to improve the quality of life of its citizens. That is why we can talk about the undoubted importance of the ArchConcept competition, which is aimed at finding modern creative solutions in the field of architecture and environmental design in difficult natural and climatic conditions. The competition, organized by the St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, provided young professionals and students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge, realize their creative potential and create projects that will improve the quality of human life.”
The theme of the Arctic predetermined interesting and unusual architectural proposals, taking into account the specifics of the Far North. The participants' works reflected images of snow and ice, northern lights. Bold, innovative, high-tech solutions were presented. The authors of the projects thought about how to make life in the Arctic more comfortable, for example, by introducing warm atriums with landscaping into residential and public buildings. I especially remember the works presented in the form of layouts.
1. Project of a multifunctional complex by students Vladimir Ovchinnikov and associate professor at the SPbGASU Department of Architectural Design Aleksandra Eremeeva (grand prix in the nomination "Architecture of a multifunctional complex - public buildings")
2. Project of a multifunctional residential complex by a student of the Ural State University of Architecture and Art Alena Yagodina and teachers of the Ural State Art Academy Aleksey Merenkov, Natalia Lamekhova, Ekaterina Polyantseva (grand prix in the nomination "Architecture of a residential multifunctional complex")
The highest evaluation of the jury was awarded to the project of the Fractal creative group, which developed the concept of a public complex in the Arctic and submitted both a project proposal and a layout to the competition.
Project of the multifunctional complex from the creative group Fractal
The project of the multifunctional complex "Fractal" consists of six compactly placed octahedral hemispherical buildings installed on two platforms. The energy-efficient form and transformable facade elements provide a stable comfortable interior environment at any time of the year, and the functional zoning and communication links between the buildings proposed in the project imply the most comfortable use of the complex for potential consumers in the harsh conditions of the Arctic.
“The theme of the Arctic was of great interest to our team. The hallmark of the Russian North should be innovative, sometimes unique architectural solutions, and it is important for us to make our professional contribution, our ideas to their development. We are grateful to our leaders for their help and support, thanks to which we not only took part in the competition, but learned in the process of work,” said student Anzhelika Ivanikhina, a member of the Fractal creative group.
The creative team included teachers from the SPbGASU Department of History and Theory of Architecture Marina Khramova, Igor Khramov, Aleksandr Ponomarev; second-year bachelor's students of the Faculty of Architecture Anzhelika Ivanikhina, Alina Baranova, Yulia Golda, Ksenia Chernyak and third-year bachelor's student of the Faculty of Architecture Daria Parfenova.
The award ceremony was attended by authors from universities from all over Russia: Ural State University of Architecture and Art, Tyumen State Institute of Culture, Orenburg State University, Kazan University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Moscow Institute of Architecture.
We sincerely thank all the contestants for their participation and congratulate the winners on the high marks of their projects.
