SPbGASU celebrated the World Quality Day
SPbGASU celebrated the World Quality Day with the 17th city practical conference “Problems of the quality of legislation, urban planning, engineering surveys, design, construction, the building materials industry, examination and operation of real estate”.
Prominent specialists and scientists, members of field-specific city committees, heads of organizations got together on November 14, 2019 in one of the oldest technical universities of Russia to combine their efforts and find answers to the most pressing questions of the present-day construction industry.
The ideological mastermind and permanent organizer of the event, Vice President and director of Soyuzpetrostroy Company Lev M. Kaplan spoke about the importance of following the tradition of these conferences:
“Quality is the basis of the product market and the carrier of the use value. The quality of construction is a multifaceted, comprehensive concept that depends not only on builders but also on how the regulatory framework is formed, how the matters are in architecture and urban planning, surveying, designing, project appraisal, quality of building materials and operation. It is necessary to do everything possible so that we would have a cult of quality and not of quantity. Construction is a special industry that produces a special product, i.e., real estate. And the main problem is the desire to reduce the cost of everything and everywhere, at all stages. Today, we are going to look at what is hindering quality improvement.”
Vice president of NOPRIZ, president of AS ABOK NORTH-WEST Alexander M. Grimitlin, and SPbGASU vice-rector for external relations of Irina R. Lugovskaya welcomed the conference participants.
Presentations made:
- Vladimir A. Grigoryev, Chairman of the Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of St. Petersburg, who substantiated the interdependence of architecture and quality of life

According to I.R. Lugovskaya, SPbGASU is constantly improving basic and additional educational programs, taking into account the requirements of the construction industry.
To date, all educational programs are peer-reviewed by employers. Employers are the curators of students' field trips and members of the commissions conducting the final state certification.
The university has a monitoring system for assessing the quality of the educational process. The University participates in a number of prestigious international and national ratings aimed at assessing the quality of higher professional education, occupying worthy positions in them and annually improving its performance. SPbGASU has a consistently high competition among applicants.
Each year, over 80% of graduates get a job in accordance with their specialty.
The university is engaged in continuing education and retraining of workers in the construction industry. Every year, about three thousand people are trained at the SPbGASU Institute for Advanced Studies and Retraining of Specialists.
The active participation of the university in international activities allowed it to win two grants despite the serious competition for the implementation of projects under the Cross-border Cooperation Program, namely, “Russia - South-Eastern Finland 2014-2020”. One of the projects is called “Safety, High Professionalism and Efficiency at Construction Sites”, and the other is “Integration of BIM in Higher and Professional Education”. The total financing of the projects is Euro 1.5 million. Both are implemented in close collaboration with the professional community.
“The university has developed productive partnerships with most construction companies, unions, associations, specialized committees in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, and we hope for their further development,” emphasized I. R. Lugovskaya.
