SPbGASU creative groups tore up on Vasilyevsky Island

On April 17, 2020, the finals of the tenth jubilee contest festival “We Tear up on Vasilievsky Island” was held online. Among its laureates and winners were creative teams from the SPbGASU Kirpich Center for Student Leisure and Creativity.

The Made’Ira team became the winner in the “Contemporary Dance nomination,” and got the second place in the “Pop Dance” nomination

The TangoArgentino team won the third place in the “Folk Dance” nomination

The BACKSHOTcrew team was awarded first degree diplomas in two categories: “Street Dance” and “Modern Dance”

The contest festival was held from February 1 to March 18 in two stages: intramural and extramural.

We asked the winners to share their impressions of participating in this large-scale event.

Daria Trishina, fourth-year student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Made`Ira team:

– We have been participating in the competition for several years in a row. We are happy to be part of it! It was nice to see so many talented guys in one place. Right away, you begin to charge with creativity, the spirit of competition wakes up. We were eager to show that we were the best, honorably represent our university!

– What difficulties did you encounter? Did rehearsals interfere with your studies?

– All the dancers have a extremely busy schedule. The main thing is to be able to allocate time and prioritize.

– What did participation in the contest give you?

– It's nice to know that you are getting better in an area that means a lot to you. And strong rivals only add the desire to progress.

– Please share your plans.

– The plans are keep developing and never stop on the achieved!

Polina Lushanova, fifth-year student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, the TangoArgentino team:

– I got glowing impressions. Participation in the competition gave us the confidence that we are ready to perform on the stage. Rehearsals did not interfere with studying; quite the contrary, they helped to distract and relax. The support of our teachers inspired us immensely. My plans are to move further and do more! More new venues and performances when we are all released from quarantine!

Roman Gorbunov, SPbGASU graduate and assistant teacher of the Tango Argentino team:

– The first impression is quite joyful, because the competition did take place. It was a heart-pounding process: your knees are shaking; you constantly scroll the dance from start to finish in your head not to miss anything. But you go on stage, under the spotlights, and rely on your muscle memory. Of course, the situation was tense, but next to us were members of other SPbGASU teams who supported us, and we supported them. We were like one big dance family. But first of all, we were supported by our teachers. They found the right words to say before the performance, so that on the stage, we would feel calmer and more confident.

Further plans are to take new heights, accomplish new achievements, try, train, dance, let even for some time at home. As soon as we open the dance hall, we will be the first to get inside the familiar walls, so as not only to catch up with the previous form, but also to surpass it, to become even better. The perfection has no limits!

Elizaveta Pyshnaya, first grade at the Institute of Physics and Economics, TangoArgentino team:

– Impressions are absolutely unforgettable, since I was on the dance floor for the first time. The greatest support came, of course, from our teachers. But we also supported each other within the team. The difficulties were of technical sort: some movements were quite tricky. Rehearsals as such were always positive! Studying was not affected! Participation in the competition gave me my first and, therefore, invaluable experience on the stage. The plans are to continue to engage and conquer new venues.

Veronika Obolenskaya, Faculty of Architecture, the BACKSHOTcrew team:

– Each competition is a new opportunity, new emotions. “We tear up on Vasilievsky” was no exception; it gave us new experience. In our team, we support each other, especially in stressful situations that may arise at such events. Our coach Maria Lyubetskaya conveys a great moral support to us. Rehearsals did not interfere with study. The competition moved us up to a new level; we saw what else we need to work on in order to win further. My plans are to work really hard, improve my skills and come for new victories!

Ксения Шувалова, строительный факультет, коллектив BACKSHOTcrew:

Ksenia Shuvalova, Faculty of Civil Engineering, BACKSHOTcrew team.

My team and I were delighted to take part in the competition. The contest “We tear up on Vasilievsky” every year raises the bar higher and higher. Our choreographer and other students provided enormous support. It is the presence of people who follow our activities, believe in us, rejoice in our every speech, that would not let us retreat or take a step back. There always are difficulties; without them, no character can be developed and team spirit cannot be tempered. The most important thing is to remain united not only on the stage, but also behind the curtains!

Our rehearsals and training help us to relax from school and get back to it with renewed vigor. It seems to me, if not for dancing, we would have long lost the inspiration to reach new heights! The main plus of this large-scale competition is that the folks with completely different talents and abilities can try themselves on the same stage and really “ignite” not only themselves, but also the audience. You can’t imagine how we felt when we found out that we received diplomas of the first degree in two categories right away! What are we going to do next? Of course, we’ll work even harder and light it up again! After all, victories motivate for new achievements.

Irina Deyeva, director of the Kirpich CSLC and the head of the Made`Ira team:

– I am very happy for all our guys. We have never had such a powerful crop of prize winning in the “We tear up on Vasilievsky” contest, and we have been participating in it for quite a few years. This proves that we are moving in the right direction. The feeling was that we came there as one big and friendly family. When, at the intramural stage, the girls from Made`Ira said in an interview, “We are from GASU”, our guys began to chant: “GASU, GASU, GASU throughout the entire Youth House... It was incredibly powerful! I wish the guys to keep going, move forward, and overcome all difficulties with the least losses and, of course, get new victories!
