SPbGASU graduates 2021: getting a start in life

The defense of graduation qualification works is now complete at Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering. This year, 2,783 graduates of SPbGASU received their diplomas of higher education.

Kamila Gilmutdinova, Alina Karnishina, Kirill Baskakov, Vitaly Orekhov, Ilya Gilyov

417 diplomas have been awarded by the Faculty of Architecture, including 40 with honours.

The most valuable thing the university gave me is the people – the teachers who have guided us along the way and friends with whom we have gone through all these five years.

Besides, I have received a very strong professional basis, the ability to defend my point of view and be confident in my own decisions,” said Kamila Gilmutdinova, a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture.

One of this year’s most notable events is the first graduation of landscape architects at the Faculty of Architecture. Under the guidance of the Department of Architectural Environment and Landscape Design’s senior lecturer Vasily Gomozov and Associate Professors Svetlana Danilova and Nadezhda Kerimova, students worked to create an attractive, comfortable environment in which the natural landscape was preserved, and the infrastructure was reorganized taking into consideration the needs of local residents. Alina Bezrukova and Vasilisa Gostyukhina were engaged in the improvement of the system of green public spaces in Priozersk, Leningrad Region. The authors applied an integrated approach, not dealing with individual transformations, but having proposed a comprehensive master plan. Bold decisions and creative design solutions is what distinguished the works of Oksana Kandaurova, Irina Akhtariyeva, Alina Staroverova, Viola Bashkirtseva, Ekaterina Dupuy and Elizaveta Novikova. The focus of their attention was Martynovsky public garden in Primorsky District of St. Petersburg.

665 students have completed their studies at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, 137 of them received diplomas with honours. Kirill Baskakov, who majored in Construction of Unique Buildings and Structures, chose an industrial facility as the theme of his graduation project. According to Kirill, civil high-rise buildings have a similar design. In addition, during their studies, students had already solved similar design problems. At the same time, in industrial construction, the main task is to ensure the technological purpose of this or that structure, and each of them has its own distinctive features. Developing the design of a reinforced concrete cooling tower as part of a nuclear power plant under the guidance of Associate Professor of the Department of Reinforced Concrete and Stone Structures Igor Rudny became a new and useful experience for the student.

Despite constant search for alternative energy sources, nuclear power remains the most promising solution to this day. This is due to the fact that nuclear power plants are very efficient and environmentally friendly.

Many countries continue to build them or plan to master such technologies,” noted Kirill Baskakov.

210 students have graduated from the Automobile and Road Building Faculty this year, 75 of them received diplomas with honours.

The Faculty’s graduate Vitaly Orekhov is the winner of numerous competitions. In 2019, he won the SPbGASU student research grant contest for developing a technology to perform express monitoring of vehicle tyre pressure. In 2020, Vitaly got an award from the Government of St. Petersburg, having won a grant competition among students and postgraduates. As part of research work under the supervision of Igor Chernyaev, Head of the Department of Transport Maintenance, a prototype vehicle was created, which makes it possible to increase the safety of vehicle tyres by means of automating the control of transport stock before entering and after return from the route at passenger transport enterprises. Besides, timely prevention of changes in the condition of tyres will increase their service life.

“The university has provided me with theoretical and practical knowledge to solve problems faced by road transport enterprises that require high qualification,” said Vitaly Orekhov.

It has also been a successful academic year for the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services: 81 out of 262 graduates have been awarded diplomas with honours. Moreover, the Faculty’s graduate Ilya Gilyov was recognized as this year’s best graduate of SPbGASU.

Ilya has an impressive list of achievements: he’s a multiple-time winner of student competitions in structural physics, and took part in the “BIM on Ice” project. In addition, Ilya was one of the speakers at the 74th scientific and practical conference for students, postgraduates and young scientists "Current Issues of Modern Construction». He also completed an advanced training programme in BIM Management and Autodesk course, and was awarded a scholarship of the President of the Russian Federation and the Government of St. Petersburg.

The Faculty of Economics and Management has awarded degrees to 300 graduates, including 34 diplomas with honours. 205 students completed their studies at the Faculty of Forensics and Law in Construction and Transport, 15 of them graduated with honours.

Alina Karnishina, a student of the Faculty of Forensics and Law in Construction and Transport, under the supervision by Elena Kuzbagarova, Associate Professor at the Department of Forensics, explored the state, problems and prospects of informatization, automation and computerization in forensic engineering and technical expertise. The graduate believes that new technologies will not only improve the quality and reliability of expertise, but can also significantly reduce time costs, and minimize examination errors. The use of technological solutions and methods can bring the class of engineering and technical expertise to a new level.

The Institute of Part-Time Studies has traditionally held two graduations this year: in February, 483 graduates received diplomas, of which 24 graduated with honors. In June, 241 students of accelerated forms of study defended their diplomas.

Congratulations and wishes of great professional success to all the SPbGASU graduates!
