SPbGASU tested a unique format for defending graduation TIM projects - a collective one, in which the project is defended by a group of graduates from different faculties and fields of study. The commission included representatives of industry companies.

The main goal of the event is to collect the opinions of the construction business community in order to form the legal basis for such defenses and in the coming years to bring this format to the official level.

TIM is a technology of information modeling with which you can design objects in a three-dimensional environment, taking into account all the necessary information about the materials used, equipment, products, etc. All specialists (architect, designer, economist, and others) can work in this information model at the same time making changes to it. The use of a building information model allows you to move to advanced technologies in construction, ensure financial transparency and reduce risks.

“Many large-scale projects have already been implemented in our country using TIM technologies. SPbGASU, the oldest architectural and civil engineering university in Russia, takes into account the staffing needs of the construction industry and trains specialists who are maximally focused on practical activities,” said Evgeny Rybnov, SPbGASU Rector.

According to Egor Danilov, associate professor at the Department of Metal and Timber Constructions and organizer of the event, one project group of graduates presented to the commission a digital model of the SPbGASU building at 10, Serpukhovskaya Street, the other - a project of a climatic crypto-complex in Salekhard. “The digital model of the building on Serpukhovskaya Street was created over the course of several years by the students. It is worked out in detail, to the last brick and light bulb. The second project is aimed at solving an ambitious task: the students had to develop a large multifunctional center for the Arctic region, which is difficult in terms of construction, and they completed the work at a high professional level,” explained Egor Danilov.

The leading engineer of Renaissance Construction Corporation Aleksandr Ageev emphasized that for his company the main goal of participating in this event is to search for promising young professionals working on popular topics. “The format of today's event allows us to evaluate the quality of students' works, their level of preparation and see how they can be useful to our company. We already have several good young professionals, including guys who have participated in the TIM championships of SPbGASU, so we have a positive experience of such cooperation,” he said.

Valeria Zhukova, head of the design department of the ROSTerm company, also expressed her interest in cooperation with SPbGASU, including in this direction, which is in demand today. “Our customers are gradually introducing TIM technologies, and in order to build an effective workflow with them, we need specialists. At such events, students fully demonstrate their practical skills, since the principle of work here is as close as possible to real conditions: collective activity is underway, coordination is being carried out among specialists in related areas. Previously, representatives of our company took part in the TIM championship as experts, after which they accepted several promising guys into their team; one of them is now defending himself here. In addition, we take the guys for internship with subsequent employment. This approach to personnel policy showed a good result, so today we are here,” she said.

Students of St Petersburg secondary school No. 347 also came to get acquainted with graduates' TIM projects. As Oleg Sukhorukov, a teacher of technology at this school, explained, attending this event is part of career guidance practice.

“Several years ago, an engineering class was opened at our school together with SPbGASU. Time has shown the correctness of this decision: last year, our first graduate entered the Faculty of Automobile and Road Building. Now designers are working in computer programs, which means that it is time to give schoolchildren primary knowledge about technologies of information modeling. In the coming academic year, the children will attend TIM classes, also opened jointly with SPbGASU. The graduates demonstrated today what they would learn. Such events have become a productive method of vocational guidance for schoolchildren,” said Oleg Sukhorukov.

Andrey Zyurikov, who finished the eighth grade, admits that everything he saw today seemed to him difficult, but interesting. “I especially liked some of the architects' ideas. Now I am still in the process of choosing my future professional activity. But since I am fond of information technology and interested in architecture, today I thought: TIM possession will allow me to combine these interests,” the student said.
