SPbGASU improved the technology of solar panels
СSolar energy is one of the most powerful renewable energy sources, its reserves are inexhaustible. In addition, it does not pollute the environment, in sharp contrast to coal, oil and natural gas. All this makes it attractive for use.
Professor Yuri N. Kazakov
Solar energy is used in such areas as solar heating, photovoltaics, concentrated solar power (CSP), concentric photovoltaics (CPV), solar architecture, and artificial photosynthesis. Solar panels are one of the technologies to convert and use solar energy for lighting and heating buildings, and to heat water for domestic, commercial or industrial use.
At the SPbGASU Department of Construction Technology, Ksenia Popova, a second-year graduate student, under the scientific supervision of Professor Yuri Kazakov, Dr. of Engineering, has implemented research work to improve the technology of solar panels on the roofs of buildings.
The authors proposed an improved solar panel design and new installation technology that differs from standard rail-guided technology. All parts are fastened directly into the provided grooves, thus excluding the presence of a large number of small parts.
The system analysis of the technologies for installing solar panels on the roofs of buildings showed a significant technical and economic advantage of these proposals. Installation and removal of solar panels becomes more convenient, the probability of rolling down of first-row panels is excluded, while the opportunity for horizontal placement of panels appears, and the aesthetic appeal of the structure increases. The new installation technology provides for high reliability and accuracy of fixation; the length of the mounting rails reduces along with labor costs: for standard installation of modules, at least two people are needed, and the new technology is designed for only one. It allows reducing installation time by five times and halving the cost.
As an experiment, this technology can be applied on the roofs of the educational buildings of our university. It is difficult to change or move forward the development of renewable energy sources from a dead point without the development of the solar and construction industry, the introduction of highly efficient and advanced technologies, the improvement of solar panels and the technology of their arrangement. The department of Construction Technology is actively working in this field.
