SPbGASU Lecturer Spoke about New Technologies for Studying Accidents

The program "We explain. SPb” on the St Petersburg TV channel showed a story featuring Egor Golov, a senior lecturer at the SPbGASU Department of Transport Systems. The scientist spoke about the level of road safety, technologies helping to study and analyze accidents.

According to Egor Golov, one of the ways to determine the speed of a car before the collision is based on the assessment of the kinetic energy spent on the development of deformation. Based on the resistance of the car body shell material, all components and assemblies, it is possible to determine the speed in a collision.

The researcher reported a patented application authored by him. The application optimizes the work of experts and exhibits high accuracy. Thanks to the new technology, there is no need to carry out calculations on paper – it is enough to enter the results of laser scanning into the program that will compare the condition of the car before and after the accident.

According to Egor Golov, there is no "remedy for all diseases" in the issue of road safety. It is impossible to solve all problems by limiting speed or by increasing the requirements for the maintenance of highways. The law of synergy works here, a systematic approach should be applied.
