SPbGASU scientists awarded Betancourt medals
On April 13, Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Vitaly Saveliev signed an order to award Augustine de Betancourt medals to representatives of the St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering - Head of the Department of Geotechnics, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Rashid Mangushev and Associate Professor of the Department of Geotechnics, Ph.D. Anatoly Osokin.

Award order
The awards were given to scientists for their great personal contribution to the implementation of transport infrastructure construction projects.
Rashid Mangushev is one of the greatest authorities in the field of soil mechanics, grounds and foundations, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Building Sciences, technical expert of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Social Sciences, vice president and member of the presidium of the Russian and member of the International Societies for Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering. Under his leadership, scientific and technical surveys were carried out for a number of large-scale projects, including the second stage of the Mariinsky Theatre, the Lakhta Center multifunctional complex, the second stage of the Sea Port of St. Petersburg and the SKA Arena hockey stadium.
Anatoly Osokin is the Honored Builder of Russia, laureate of the St. Petersburg Government Prize in the field of higher and secondary vocational education. He specializes in complex cases of geotechnical practice, including the construction of foundations and underground structures in the conditions of urban historical development, engineering restoration of monuments, removing buildings from an emergency state and stabilizing weak soils.
The Medal of Augustine de Betancourt, an outstanding builder, architect, mechanical engineer, is awarded to employees of educational organizations for outstanding personal merits in training and advanced training of specialists in automotive, air, inland waterway, railway, maritime, industrial transport and road facilities in accordance with international and Russian requirements, the introduction of innovative technologies, forms and methods of teaching into the educational process and the development of transport science. The medal was established in 2005.
