SPbGASU student is among winners of the Russian urban hackathon

The results of the Russian urban hackathon "Goroda" (“Cities”), which took place from June 21 to 23 in Anapa, have been announced.

Winning team: Valeria Malinovskaya, Tatyana Okuneva,

Aleksey Belenko (team supervisor, BAAD architectural bureau),

Sardana Nogovitsyna, Anastasia Lazareva

Tatyana Okuneva, a Master's student of SPbGASU, was a member of the winning team, which also included Valeria Malinovskaya (Kaliningrad), Sardana Nogovitsyna (Yakutsk) and Anastasia Lazareva (Nizhny Novgorod).

Hackathon is a sprint-like event, in which specialists from different fields (computer programmers, designers, managers) collaborate intensively on a project. The “Cities” hackathon aims to help young architects, urbanists, environmental and industrial designers. In the course of the event, beginning professionals get acquainted with the areas proposed for improvement and landscaping, and then, split into teams and under the guidance of experienced supervisors, develop solutions, one of which will be further implemented with the support of the regional authorities.

The winning team’s design proposal

The work of the finalist teams was supervised by the architect of the BAAD bureau, a member of the Union of Architects of Russia, head of the press service of the Krasnodar branch of the Union of Architects Aleksey Belenko

The “Cities” hackathon was organized by “Roskulttsent”, a subordinate institution of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh).

Participants were required to create a proposal for renovating the facade of a Youth Centre’s building and improving the adjacent territory. To fulfil the task, they explored the history of the area and studied its zoning, analysed socio-cultural problems, and found out the neighbourhood residents’ preferences.

“The hackathon proved the significance of the issues related to improving the urban environment in Russia, and most importantly, the interest of regional authorities in these changes. Participation in the project is the first and therefore very important step towards joining the professional community for most of the finalists. The Youth Centre "21st century" in Anapa is one of the Krasnodar Region’s leading organizations engaged in educational, creative and sports activities for young people. It is important that the hackathon participants develop a project for their peers, whose tastes and interests they perfectly understand,” said Marina Abramova, Director of “Roskulttsentr”.

The winning team's project will receive comprehensive support and will be implemented in 2022–2025. The project authors will be invited to the awards ceremony at the Russian Creative Week festival in Moscow.
