SPbGASU student took 4th place at the Russian Paragliding Championship

Roman Boyev

SPbGASU pays special attention to the development of physical culture and sports. Over the years, our students have achieved significant success in a variety of sports, both as individuals and teams. Professor Aleksandr Karavan, head of the Department of Physical Training, believes that physical culture is part of the individual’s general culture.

Roman Boyev is studying Land Management and Cadastres at the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services. While obtaining the profession of a cadastral engineer, the student engages in paragliding in his free time. Roman has achieved considerable success: recently, he took fourth place in the Russian paragliding championship.

Roman came to paragliding at the age of 11 on the initiative of his parents, and he immediately fell in love with this sport.

“We rise up right into the sky and we fly. We travel all over the world. I train in the Leningrad region, in Volosovsky and Mozhaisky districts. The first time I went up to the sky, it was scary, but the sensations were unforgettable. Then the fear disappears. There are several disciplines in our sport, for example, cross-country paragliding. We start, fly over certain points along the route and finish. The winner is the one who passed the route first. The second discipline is paragliding accuracy. There is a circle with a radius of 10 meters, and you have to finish in it. Whoever lands closer to the centre wins,” tells Roman.

Roman is a member of the “Aurora” club. He is fairly well prepared, and trains on his own: he chooses the route himself and flies along it. Roman says many people in St. Petersburg are fond of paragliding, and competitions at different levels bring together up to 150 participants. To get to the Russian championship, he had to go through a tough selection process.

Congratulations to Roman Boyev on achieving high results at the Russian Paragliding Championship and wishing him further success both in studies and sports!
