SPbGASU Student Was Elected Chairman of St. Petersburg Student Council
Yegor Ilyin, SPbGASU Master's student of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services, was elected Chairman of the Student Council of St. Petersburg. The election took place at the general meeting of the Council, which was held on March 23, 2021 at the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia. We asked Yegor to tell us what this work means to him.
Electing the Chairman of the St. Petersburg Student Council
– I’ve been involved in student community activities since mid-2016, focusing mainly on student self-governance. I was previously the deputy chairman and chairman of the Faculty Student Council, then the chairman of the Student Council of SPbGASU, head of the university-based urban eco-project and other student organizations. I had the opportunity to participate in all-Russian and regional forums on student self-governance.
– What is the main goal of your work?
– I believe that the main thing is to promote and support students' ideas and initiatives. So that these ideas and initiatives are not only heard, but also fulfilled.
"Student – city" and "student – university – city" links will always exist. Our task is to support this connection. It is necessary to strengthen the interaction of students and the city on various issues related to student opinions, to improve the quality of the educational process, and provide assistance in organizing socially significant events.
– What does the St. Petersburg Student Council do? What will be your responsibilities?
– The Council takes part in the development and implementation of the state youth policy in Saint Petersburg. It interacts with executive bodies on the issues within the competence of the Council, develops interregional cooperation in the field of youth policy and exchange of experience, and much more. My responsibilities include organizing the work of the Council, its Executive Committee, holding the meetings, implementing decisions of the general meeting and the Executive Committee, representing the interests of the Council in government bodies, district authorities, and in public organizations.
– Can you remember any unusual moments in your work?
– Once a teacher requested the SPbGASU Student Council to write a lecture in the form of a rap song. We helped with this. But whether our creative results were actually used or not has remained a mystery.
I am always inspired by interesting tasks to be solved. At the same time, I have always received a lot of support from students of my university and the city. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the SPbGASU management for their support and assistance in my endeavors.
– What advice could you give to other students?
– Do not be afraid to go beyond the ordinary and familiar things. The more unknown, the more opportunities you will get for learning something new and moving forward!
