SPbGASU students participate in the Summer University on Kizhi Island
Every year, the Department of Metal and Wooden Structures at SPbGASU presents a proposal to the national competition, which gives the opportunity to take part in the Summer University on Kizhi Island. The Summer University has been held in the Kizhi Museum-Reserve for 18 years, and is aimed at expanding young people’s horizons and enabling students to learn new disciplines, including the practical side.
Creating a 3D model of the chapel
This year, the Department managed to pass the selection with a project for creating a three-dimensional training model of a traditional wooden building – the chapel of the Assumption of the Holy Mother, located in the Kizhi village of Vasilyevo. The project author is Associate Professor Stefania Mironova.
Under the guidance of the Department’s teachers Yegor Danilov and Pavel Koval, a group of students performed a set of surveying works having measured the structural elements of the chapel to develop a digital twin.
Currently, based on the results of measurement and certification, a three-dimensional model of the chapel is being developed to be later presented to the management of the museum-reserve.
In addition to the educational programme, the Summer University gives participants the opportunity to get acquainted with the unique architectural monuments of Kizhi and the traditional culture of Zaonezhie. For example, students had a chance to observe the reconstruction of objects of wooden architecture, including the world-famous twenty-two-domed Cathedral of the Transfiguration.
Yegor Danilov, Pavel Koval and students of the Department of Metal and Wooden Structures express their gratitude to the group supervisor Anna Isakova, as well as to Zlata Kireenko and Mikhail Terebov for their help in organizing the programme.
Winners of the current Summer University season will be determined in October.
