SPbGASU students will compete in the creation of an ice arena
The “BIM on Ice” case-championship took start at SPbGASU. The competition aims to improve the interaction of academic education and business practices. Its participants will develop teamwork skills; test themselves during real design and interdisciplinary interaction. The composition of the student teams include future architects, designers, specialists in water supply and sanitation, heating and ventilation systems. Participants will create a project for the Ice Sports Palace.
The winning team will be invited for an internship at METROPOLIS Company, which was recognized as the “BIM Leader of the Year” in Russia in 2020.
On February 11, at the opening of the championship at SPbGASU, students participated in the competition, university teachers and representatives of METROPOLIS, one of the initiators and organizers of the event, got together.
Sergey Bryuzgin, head of the HV and HC department at METROPOLIS, spoke about the history of the company and the most significant projects in which it took part: such famous works as the reconstruction of the Grand Arena, the construction of an indoor pool and the Rhythmic Gymnastics Center at the Luzhniki Metropolitan Sports Complex, construction of the Evolution towers in Moscow-City, and the Sochi Media Center.
– “For all the buildings that our employees took part in, they tried to ‘bring it up’ from the concept to the start of the project,” the company representative said. “By participating in the case championship, you will immerse yourself into a real project, get the opportunity to work in a team and in a similar way arrive to the final result of collective efforts.”
Ksenia Pashkevich, lead architect at METROPOLIS, addressed students with words of encouragement:
- How you will have built a building outlines the way of how it will live and operate. Responsibility lies with all team members, so already at the first stage you need to constantly consult with engineers and designers. The experts of the case championship will be the SPbGASU teachers and METROPOLIS employees.
According to the University Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Svetlana Golovina, the case championship will be a good test of the knowledge and competencies of future architects, engineers, designers, BIM coordinators.
- “You are given the opportunity to implement your intentions, learn to interact at an interdisciplinary level, work for a common result. And the best of you will get an internship at a company that has a leading position on the market,” said the Vice Rector.
The case championship will be held in three stages. The first will be the development of an architectural concept of the object: the Ice Sports Palace. Only students of the SPbGASU Faculty of Architecture take part in it. The second stage includes the integrated development of the design project; at this stage, other team members join the work: ISU / BIM coordinators, designers, specialists in HV and HC. The final stage will take place in May: the participants will have to defend their design projects.
