SPbGASU team’s success at WorldSkills Hi-Tech 2021
From 25 to 30 October, the 8th WorldSkills Hi-Tech National Championship of Cross-Industry Professions was held in Ekaterinburg. The SPbGASU team took part in the Engineering Design category.

WorldSkills Hi-Tech – is the country’s most large-scale professional skills competition that has been held since 2014. The championship brought together representatives of various industries to solve competitive tasks based on real professional cases. It was organised by the Agency for Development of Professional Skills (Worldskills Russia) with the support of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Sverdlovsk Region Government, the Agency for Strategic Initiatives to Promote New Projects, Russian corporations and holding companies.
Engineering Design competition venue
The Engineering Design competition focused on the design of buildings and structures for various purposes, including engineering systems and networks, using the Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology.
The SPbGASU team worked on designing a gas turbine expansion plant including the building structures, cooling scheme, power supply and electrical lighting.
Each team member had his or her own role: fourth-year Bachelor’s student Olga Gritsenko (Faculty of Civil Engineering) was in charge of the structural design; postgraduate Yuri Zgoda worked on the information model; fourth-year Bachelor’s students Anton Timoshkov and Yuri Uglenko (Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services) were responsible for the cooling and electrical equipment and lighting respectively.

Yuri Stolbikhin, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services, associate professor at the Department of Water Use and Ecology, and Maksim Smirnov, senior lecturer at the Department of Computer Science, took part in the competition as experts who supervised the preparations and organized the team’s work.
Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering competed with the teams of national industry leaders such as Rosatom, Rosneft, Roscosmos, NIPIGAZ and others. According to the results of the competition, our participants took 10th place in the team standings, leaving behind representatives of Roscosmos State Corporation. Yury Zgoda came in fourth in the section ‘Information Modelling of Buildings and Structures’, after Rosatom and EVRAZ representatives.
SPbGASU was the only university among the contestants, nevertheless, our team members were able to demonstrate professional skills at the level of the leading companies’ specialists. We congratulate our students on this achievement and wish them further success!
