Last academic year, a fourth-year student of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services, a member of the SPbGASU student scientific society Timur Aybedulov implemented a project under the program “Sirius. Summer” as part of the All-Russian Educational Initiative for the search and implementation of scientific and technological projects by schoolchildren under the guidance of mentors.

The program "Sirius. Summer: start your project” was presented by Elena Shmeleva, head of the Talent and Success Foundation and the Sirius Educational Center, as part of the “Smart holiday” concept announced at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on 21 May, 2020. The program's aim is to enable schoolchildren during the summer holiday to find a task for project work in the next academic year, related to topical, modern problems of science, technology, business, as well as a mentor from among students of regional universities to help understanding the task and accompanying the pupil throughout the project.

As part of the program, Timur, commissioned by Tomsk Polytechnic University, implemented the educational project "Heat pump - heating system of the 21st century". The pupils of St Petersburg Lyceum No. 281 Egor Petrov, Viktoria Gomoskova, Artem Ermolov, Lev Kotin and Anna Maizels became the participants of the project. The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation allocated a subsidy in the amount of 257,600 rubles for the implementation of the project.

“As a mentor, I conducted a seminar on the theoretical and necessary knowledge for starting a team work. The guys were surprised to understand the physical meaning of the device, and immediately got involved in the process. They were interested in the fact that this topic solves many urgent issues. In the laboratory of the Department of Heat and Gas Supply and Ventilation, a practical lesson was held on measuring the performance of a heat pump in heating mode. As a result of the implementation of the joint project, we studied the market of domestic and foreign equipment, determined the prerequisites for the development of the industry in the country, calculated the economic and energy efficiency of the heat pump in comparison with other sources of heat supply, taking into account the characteristics of the Tomsk region, and developed a strategy for introducing a heat pump in this region. " - said Timur.

The initiator of the project, PhD of Engineering Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of electric power and electrical engineering of the School of Energy Engineering of Tomsk Polytechnic University Vera Shestakova noted the great work of the team.

“The guys studied in detail the theoretical foundations and principles of operation of the device, mastered the operation of a heat pump, and conducted tests. It should be noted that the report provides an interesting technical and economic comparison of district heating and heating with heat pumps in bivalent mode. At present, there are no approved norms and standards for the use of heat pumps in Russia, so I believe that the study has value and practical significance for promoting new technologies in heating systems. In the future, I recommend that the team pay attention to the correct design of the list of references and the correct placement of references to sources in the text of the report,” commented Vera Shestakova.

The involvement of schoolchildren in the scientific life of the university made it possible not only to implement another tool to familiarize potential applicants with SPbGASU, but also expanded horizontal ties among young scientists.
