Sofia Sukhareva
Sofia Sukhareva, a second-year student at the SPbGASU Faculty of Civil Engineering, reached the semi-finals of the contest track “I Do” of the All-Russian student project “Tvoy Hod" ("Your Move"). Together with Igor Shverlo, a second-year student at the Faculty of Infocommunication Networks and Systems of the Bonch-Bruevich Ssint Petersburg State University of Telecommunications, Sofia developed a calculator application for calculating the carbon footprint of an Android user.
“Our FootPrint project aims to educate Android users about the impact of their lifestyle on the environment and ways to reduce this impact. Igor develops software: creates and finalizes a pilot version, uploads the application to the network for downloading. As a team leader, I am responsible for monitoring the implementation stages, surveying users, design and developing interfaces, researching the quality of work and use of the application,” said Sofia.
“Tvoy Hod” became for Sofia a natural continuation of her research activities. In 2020 and 2021, the student participated in the all-Russian competition “Big Change” and both times reached the semi-finals. She was deputy regional coordinator for the Samara region. In 2021, she became one of the organizers of the competitive finals within the “League of the First”, a gathering of leaders of regional leagues of clubs and coordinators of regional teams of the “Big Change”.
According to the student, “Your Move” provides an opportunity to meet new people, find like-minded fellows, and gain time management and teamwork skills. Sofia is supported by family and friends - they believe in the success of the project.
“After the contest we will continue to develop the application. It is currently only available to Android users. We will work on an extension to make it available to iOS users,” the student shared her plans.
In the semi-finals, the team will have to defend the project in person before an expert commission. We wish Sofia and Igor good luck!
