Students of the Department of Construction Technology visited a construction site
St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering pays particular attention to the acquisition of practical skills by students. In addition to compulsory internships in companies and organizations, students participate in field trips. The fourth-grade students of the Department of Construction Technology (Industrial and Civil Engineering educational program) under the guidance of the assistant professor of the department Dmitry A. Zhivotov visited the construction sites of the warehouse and office buildings complex and two buildings of business centers in St. Petersburg.

During the tour, the participants got acquainted with the organization of the construction site, the equipment, mechanisms and gear used at it. In addition, they got a chance see all stages of the construction of buildings and structures: from excavation and pile field construction to preparing an artificial basement for the foundation, reinforcing it, installing formwork, concreting and installing monolithic structures above the ground level.

“Reinforcing frames for columns was particularly impressive. We designed them in our term papers this semester and now, finally, could see the designs in real life. We could get very close to the workshop where the fittings for stairwells were made.”
The tour of the construction site was not limited to the reinforcement workshop. Students descended to the ground level of the building, where underground parking areas would be located.
“We visited a brick building at the complex, which is in the process of restoration. Presently, it is being strengthened with additional reinforced concrete elements, windows and glazing are to be changed there,” added Vladislav Bogdanov, another participant of the tour.
According to the rector of SPbGASU Evgeny I. Rybnov, a visit to the production site should become an integral part of the educational process, as it allows students to get acquainted with the real conditions of their future work and to keep abreast of current industry issues.
