Students of the SPbGASU Faculty of Economics and Management and the Faculty of Civil Engineering, as well as their teachers: Associate Professor Sergey Bovteev (Department of Construction Management), Senior Lecturer Marina Egorova and Associate Professor Maria Mechikova (Department of Management in Construction) visited the construction site of the third stage of the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant-2 (Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant) on 31 October.
The trip took place at the invitation of JSC CONCERN TITAN-2, which was conducting construction work. At the beginning of the excursion, the students were briefed on safety precautions at the site and received personal protective equipment. During the excursion, which was conducted by Deputy Chief Engineer Konstantin Dektyarev, the students visited the TITAN-2 holding museum, the reinforcement and concrete mixing shops, where they learned about the stages of reinforcement preparation and welding technology, the features of storing components for concrete and forming concrete mix for its loading.
But the main entity that our students and teachers visited was a specially protected construction site, where the guests were told about the stages of construction of such large-scale facilities as modern nuclear power plants, about the features of the area and about the construction machines and equipment used to carry out the work.
"As for a first-year student, it was very interesting and useful for me to visit such a large facility as the Leningrad NPP, as I was able to see that construction is a very complex process involving a large number of workers, each of whom must be a professional in their field. We were able to immerse ourselves in the working atmosphere, there was a lot of new and interesting information directly related to our profession. I am very grateful for the tour and unforgettable impressions!" said Elena Vetrova, a student majoring in Civil Engineering.
According to third-year Management student Dmitry Evstifeyev, "the visit to the construction site was an impressive experience that allowed to appreciate the scale and complexity of the construction process. The amount of materials used to build such a massive building as a nuclear power plant is astounding in its volume. Despite the difficult weather conditions on the day of the excursion, the students observed the professionalism of the builders, who continued to work despite everything."
