On 6–7 December, the final stage of the case championship “BIOTON-2023” took place in Moscow. It was held as part of the 27th International Specialized Exhibition and Forum “Occupational Safety and Health” (BIOT-2023).
The championship is held among students engaged in scientific and research activities. The organizers offer participants a case, which is solved by a team of five people at the correspondence stage. The competition consists of two rounds: the All-Russian correspondence competition and the final as part of “BIOT-2023”.
The case of the SPbGASU team made it to the finals, where, on the instructions of the organizers, it was finalized taking into account the requirements of the author of the case - the Finnish company Lindström, which provides rental services for workwear and lobby carpets, which continues to operate in Russia as Lindaly LLC. The team called “Safety Squad” included third-year students of the “Technosphere Safety” field of study Angelina Koroleva (captain), Polina Bobrovich, Elena Borisova, Anastasia Kozlova and Vera Makhnyuk. The team competed under the guidance of the scientific supervisor, head of the SPbGASU Department of Technosphere Safety Andrey Nikulin.
As part of the innovative educational project “Modern educational technologies to ensure occupational safety in the construction industry” (2022–2026), the SPbGASU team presented a study on the topic “Application of artificial intelligence in the field of labor protection.” The students brought to the attention of the jury organizational and technical solutions for the use of artificial intelligence to recognize the type, kind and quantity of personal protective equipment on workers, as well as the financial and economic justification of the proposed solutions.
- According to the competition results, the SPbGASU team won.
“The developed solution allows us to reduce injuries in small enterprises, where an occupational safety specialist rarely appears. Smart cameras are able to read special tags indicating personal protective equipment, and artificial intelligence is trained to recognize their presence on workers. This measure allows you to remotely monitor the use of protective equipment by workers and thereby reduce the likelihood of injuries that are possible in case they are missed. A representative of Lindaily LLC noted the availability of such a solution for micro-enterprises,” commented Andrey Nikulin.
In addition, at the 27th International Specialized Exhibition and Forum “BIOT-2023”, Andrey Nikulin made a report on the results of the innovative educational project “Modern educational technologies to ensure occupational safety in the construction industry” over a two-year period.
