Students of the “Landscape Architecture” profile, as part of a summer internship under the guidance of the SPbGASU chief architect Svetlana Bochkareva, and Associate Professor at the Department of Architectural Environment Design, Aleksandr Demin, created floral decorations for the entrance to the main building of the university and the territory of the educational facilities of our university in Krasnoe Selo.

To decorate the entrance areas, gray plastic flower boxes with hanging plants of white and lilac tones were used. The range of planting material was selected considering the high resistance of the plants in an urban environment.

According to Svetlana Bochkareva, she always wanted to decorate the territory adjacent to the university so that not only students, but also passers-by and people living near the university could appreciate and feel the impact of our educational institution on the urban environment.

Students worked as part of practical training.

The managers carefully approached the issue of selecting materials and chose flower pots that have successfully proven themselves in the urban spaces of large cities in Russia and Europe. Svetlana Vladimirovna’s immediate plans include the courtyard of the university building on Egorova street. This courtyard is distinguished by a complex configuration with good lighting only in certain areas, with two vertical metal escape stairs. “The plan,” says Svetlana Vladimirovna, “is to use the example of this courtyard to show all possible techniques in reconstructing traditional wells courtyards. Here you can use vertical gardening, as well as organize a recreation area and a place for temporary storage of floral material.”

“This will be real practice in an urban environment. There are many wells courtyards in St Petersburg. Using our yard as an example, we want to show how to change life in them, provide comfort for all inhabitants of the internal spaces, how to introduce green spaces, what kind of care can ensure their good condition throughout the season,” noted Svetlana Bochkareva.
