SPbGASU hosted the in-person qualifying stage of the XI International Engineering Championship "CASE-IN" in the direction of "Project Engineering". It was attended by 62 students from six universities, divided into 16 teams.

Welcoming the teams on behalf of the SPbGASU executives, Marina Malyutina, Head of the Division for Study Administration, emphasized that the leading engineering universities of the country are participating in the championship. Among them is SPbGASU, making competencies that are worthily evaluated by industry companies. Inna Sukhanova, Dean of the SPbGASU Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services, spoke about the great opportunities that open up for students. Galina Tokunova, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management, chairman of the expert jury, spoke about the criteria for evaluating students' work and urged them to follow the rules.
The case for the qualifying stage of the championship was developed by the championship's partner company, the leading Russian engineering center NIPIGAZ JSC. The event of the case was the design of a new enterprise for the production of liquefied natural gas in permafrost conditions in the Gulf of Ob. The task of the case was to assess the possibilities for implementing the principles of import substitution and import advance in order to eliminate technical and economic barriers in the design of an object.

The first place was taken by the Altro team from SPbGASU. It consisted of the captain Glafira Bachmanova, economist Ka Kumba, process engineer Daria Shalashova and designer Sergey Nikolsky.

Second place went to the SPbGASU team "KeyIdea", which included the captain Nikita Tikhonov, designer Daria Smirnova, researcher Alexey Burzhinsky and analyst Daria Belogai.

The third was the KiZh team, which consisted of students from three universities: ITMO University, St Petersburg State Marine Technical University and Kazan State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering. It included Yulia Zaitseva (presentation design, team coordination), Anastasia Astreiko (idea generation, search and analysis of information on equipment) and Maria Nikitina (search and analysis of information about software, economic analysis).
“We have approached the issue in detail. We studied a large number of materials, consulted with program developers, worked on weekends,” said Glafira Bachmanova, the captain of the winning team.
The team that takes first place advances to the semi-finals of the championship. Champions and prize-winners of the season will be able to undergo practice and internships in CASE-IN partner companies with the possibility of subsequent employment. Students who win prizes will receive privileges for admission to master's and PhD programs at 24 universities in 18 Russian regions.
The mentor of two winning teams from SPbGASU was Viktor Yakovlev, Associate Professor at the Department of Heat and Gas Supply and Ventilation. He received a laureate diploma for his personal contribution to the training of highly qualified specialists in the field of fuel and energy and mineral and raw materials complexes, the nuclear industry and related industries.
