About a thousand participants from 76 regions of Russia, as well as from the Lugansk People's Republic and the Republic of Belarus, from June 2 to 4, gathered at the National University of Science and Technology (MISiS) for the 10th National Congress of Young Scientists' Councils. St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering at this important event for young researchers was represented by: deputy chairman of the SPbGASU council of young scientists, associate professor at the Department of transport maintenance Aleksey Marusin; curator of the SPbGASU student scientific society, associate professor at the Department of construction economics and housing and utility infrastructure Timur Ablyazov; and a member of the SSS of the SPbGASU Faculty of economics and management, a first-year graduate student of the FE&M Ksenia Kashafutdinova.
The congress was attended by representatives of young scientists' councils and student scientific societies, finalists of the "Science" direction of the competition of managers "Leaders of Russia", young scientists – recipients of state support means. They discussed topical issues in the development of Russian science, the priority tasks facing the scientific community, presented the best practices and projects of young scientists communities.
Assistant to the President of Russia Andrei Fursenko, Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia Valery Falkov and Chairman of the Coordinating Council for Youth Affairs in the Scientific and Educational Spheres of the Council for Science and Education under the President of the Russian Federation Nikita Marchenkov spoke at the opening of the congress.
Andrei Fursenko expressed confidence that science is a decisive factor for the national safety, the quality of people's life and the development of the country: “The outbreak of coronavirus infection clearly demonstrated how important scientific knowledge and information are for making the right decisions and strategic approaches, and how important for adaptation and overcoming crises is rapid introduction of technical innovations”.
Aleksey Marusin noted the high level of the event: “I received information about measures to support young scientists, about participation in grants from the Russian Science Foundation. I discussed with colleagues and with the team of the All-Russia Society of Inventors and Efficiency Experts the possibilities for implementing joint projects, exchanged views on the work of the Young Scientists' Council and the Student Scientific Society,” he said.
Timur Ablyazov and Ksenia Kashafutdinova
According to Timur Ablyazov, the scale of the event and the level of speakers show the importance of youth science for the development of the country. When discussing the prospects for student scientific societies, special attention was paid to state support measures, as well as successful practices in the development of SSS. Of particular interest were the new formats of scientific events that were implemented and demanded by students on the basis of higher educational institutions (Scientific stand-up, Science Slam).
As part of the congress, there were excursions to the offices of a number of leading companies. SPbGASU representatives visited the Moscow office of VKontakte and the multifunctional complex Sberbank City, where they've seen in practice the corporate culture of those who compete for young specialists, learned about internship programs for students.
“Based on the results of the congress, we can conclude that science cannot be imposed on modern youth. Successful practices can only be scaled up by attracting students with new forms and mechanisms for the popularization of science, which will open up opportunities for them to realize their personal and professional potential. Based on this principle, the SPbGASU student scientific society will develop,” Timur Ablyazov summed up.
