The Candle of Memory
January 27 is a great holiday not only for the people living in Saint Petersburg, but for the whole of Russia. On this day in 1944, the heroic defense of the city on the Neva, which lasted for 872 days, was over.
✔ The Battle for Leningrad is one of the most important battles of the Second World War and the longest one during the Great Patriotic War. It became a symbol of courage and dedication of defenders of the besieged city. Neither terrible hunger, nor cold or constant artillery shelling and bombing could break their will. Despite all the hardships and trials that befell these people, Leningraders survived and saved their city from invaders. Their unparalleled feat has forever remained in history as a symbol of courage, fortitude, greatness of spirit and love for the Motherland.
We sincerely congratulate all veterans on this great day!
To mark the 77th anniversary of the lifting of the Siege of Leningrad, SPbGASU organized an action of commemoration "Candle of Memory" at the memorial plaques dedicated to the fallen teachers and students of our university. We will always remember and honour the heroism of the Soviet people!
