The “Computational experiment in scientific research” seminar took start

On October 3, 2019, the first session of the scientific seminar “Computational Experiment in Scientific Research” was held; graduate students with scientific interests in the field of computational mathematics took part in it. Topics of the following sessions are already scheduled; postgraduate students, candidates and doctors of sciences can sign up. Please see contacts below. ⬇

The scientific leader of the seminar is Professor of the SPbGASU Department of Computer Science Vladimir Karpov, Dr. of Engineering.

“I’ve been working in dissertation councils for thirty years and can say that almost all dissertations that are defended in technical sciences contain computer-based calculations,” Vladimir Karpov began his speech. “The ‘mathematical model - algorithm – program’ triad is the essence of computational experiments, which will be discussed today.

In V.V. Karpov’s opinion, sometimes postgraduate students make mistakes in the formulation of problems, ill-posednesses occur in their works, and the mathematical model might be not clearly described. The seminar "Computational experiment in scientific research" is designed to help graduate students more accurately express the mathematical side of the issue in their dissertation.{gallery name="Семинар математика 102019"}

Professor V.V. Karpov and Head of the Department of Computer Science A. A. Semenov, Ph.D., prepared a textbook for postgraduate students on the subject of computational experiments in scientific research.

Seminar sessions, which V.V. Karpov and A.A.Semenov are going to lead, are devoted to the topics:

  • Different types of modeling
  • Physical and mathematical modeling
  • The main stages of mathematical models buildup
  • Basic methods and techniques for mathematical models buildup
  • Mathematical models based on variational principles
  • Mathematical models for optimization problems, etc.

Those interested in attending the seminar can sign up by phone 575-05-49 or by e-mail pmi@spbgasu.ru
