The monograph summarizes information on the structures and methods used to construct the foundations of a number of historic buildings in Saint-Petersburg, analyzes the engineering and geological features of the city and the types of foundations of old buildings. The review and analysis of emergency situations of some buildings related to the problems of their foundations are given.
The review and examples of structures of the main modern foundations and pile foundations, as well as underground spaces of large volumes, made in recent years in St. Petersburg are discussed.
