The National Flag Day
On August 22, our country celebrates the Day of the State Flag of the Russian Federation. This holiday was established in 1994. However, the history of the Russian tricolour dates back to the Petrine era. It was then that merchant ships began to sail under the white-blue-red flag, the sketch of which was created by Peter the Great. In 1896, before the coronation of Nicholas II, the flag was approved as the official one. In 1918, it was replaced by a red banner for more than 70 years. On August 22, 1991, the tricolour regained its official status.
