The Siege of Leningrad will not be forgotten

78 years ago, the siege ring closed in around Leningrad. For Leningrad residents, the terrible 900 days of sacrifices, air strikes, starvation and cold began. The heroic deeds of civilians and Soviet soldiers who defended the city was discussed on September 8, 2019 at the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery.

The city top officials, representatives of public organizations and ordinary citizens paid tribute to the dead heroes at the cemetery where nearly half a million of victims were buried in collective graves.

Students and employees of SPbGASU took part in the solemn mourning ceremony of laying flowers and wreaths dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Siege.

Many of the students came to study from other cities. But the events of the Great Patriotic War concern everyone without exception. We know what happened in those years in Leningrad, and we honor the memory of residents and defenders of the city on the Neva.

The ceremony helped to imbue the spirit of the times, to realize the full depth of the terrible tragedy. Lots of young people, students from different universities attended the ceremony and none of those remained indifferent.

Decades pass by, new generation come, but the memory of the Siege will stay forever.
