A shot from the TV report
Sergei Lanko, associate professor of the SPbGASU Department of Geotechnics, demonstrated the use of a stabilometer, i.e., a device that allows to determine almost all the soil characteristics that one might need to know for the construction of a building. Could it be that the characteristics of the soil will show that you cannot build here? The specialist claims that you can build anywhere: “The most important issue is how much it might cost. We can tell what type of foundation is needed, what needs to be foreseen, what problems may arise, what should be done with the soil - for example, strengthen it. Here is a sample of soil, which is reinforced with microcements. Our postgraduate student conducts scientific work and tests it in a stabilometer. "
Then Sergey Lanko showed the audience actual operation of the device for determining the degree of heaving, which is necessary to know for construction in permafrost conditions. The sample is a monolith of soil, placed into a holder. A casing and a stove are installed with a temperature of minus four degrees and the device is placed into the refrigerator. Each test lasts 24 hours.
✔ The Soil Testing Center of SPbGASU began working on October 1. It is planned to have undergone certification by the end of the year.
