Transforming cities

Three students of the SPbGASU Department of Architectural Design reached the final of the All-Russian Competition “Ideas Transforming Cities.” The projects were defended on August 25-27 in Moscow.

More than 900 works were presented in the competition and more than 100 participants came to Moscow for the final

The aim of the competition is to support talented young people participating in the development of improvement projects under the program “Forming a Comfortable Urban Environment” of the national project “Housing and Urban Environment.”

Solemn awarding in the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation

Excursions, lectures and master-classes of leading architects and urban specialists were held for the finalists. The participants gained experience in public presentation of their works, got acquainted with colleagues from all over the country. The award ceremony of the finalists took place in the Public Chamber of Russia.

Second-year students of SPbGASU Natalia Lazareva and Pavel Ostapchuk presented their concepts for the development of a park in the city of Podporozhye, Leningrad Region. This topic was chosen within the framework of a cooperation agreement between the regional government and the university, together with the Podporozhye administration and the Center for Urban Competencies of the Leningrad Region.

According to Svetlana Danilova, associate professor of the Department of Architectural Design, the interaction of specialists and students makes it possible to work out various options for the development of the territory within the framework of modern approaches to landscape architecture.

Pavel Ostapchuk:

– “I wanted to create a multifunctional environment in which nature plays an important role. The projected site has an ecological trail, a sports trail and a children's trail. The goal of my project is to create a visually attractive, comfortable public space for residents of Podporozhye, which meets modern ideas about an attractive urban environment.”

The author of the project is sure that a properly designed public area can contribute to the education of aesthetic taste and the formation of responsibility for your city, in particular, for its environment.

Natalia Lazareva received a 3rd degree diploma in the category “Improvement of public spaces” in the 18-25 age category. The idea of the project is to preserve the landscape of the forest park and introduce new socially significant functions.

Natalia highlighted the main design principles that provide an integrated approach: safety, attracting a large number of visitors, well-thought-out pedestrian and transport links, landscape preservation, gradual development of the territory, off-season operation, multi-functionality, uniform design solutions. The project takes into account the wishes of the residents of the city, received in the course of public opinion polls.

The fourth year student Evgenia Litvinova worked on the improvement of the local area in the Kalininsky district of St. Petersburg. The project was awarded a 1st degree diploma in the category “Yard Land Improvement” in the 18-25 age group.

– “It is always interesting to participate in all-Russian competitions. You can look at different schools and approaches to design, learn something new, make new acquaintances. And submitting your own work to the jury and getting an expert assessment, not to mention the possibility of winning, is priceless!” Eugene shared her impressions.

The final of the competition brought together not only beginners, but also prominent architects, specialists and urban experts. As part of the discussion "Why will tomorrow need an architect? New roles and goals in the new time," Svetlana Danilova, Associate Professor of the SPbGASU Department of Architectural Environment Design spoke at the invitation of the organizers.

– “In 2019, the Leningrad Region "flew up" to second place in the Federal Register of the Ministry of Construction on Best Practices for the Improvement. This was largely due to the participation in projects of SPbGASU specialists and graduates. I spoke about the implementation of the program ‘Formation of a comfortable urban environment’ in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region. A separate point of the program is the continuation of the comprehensive improvement of the village of Villozi, which has become the standard of a comfortable municipal environment in the region,” she said about her participation in the event.

According to Svetlana Danilova, an architect is, in a way, a moderator of public life, which imposes a serious responsibility on the architectural community. To successfully fulfill this role, it is necessary to improve interaction between the professional community, entrepreneurs and authorities.
