“SPbGASU should assume the function of an expert in the field of physical and mechanical properties of soils,” says Maria Zavodchikova, Associate Professor of the Department of Geotechnics, Deputy Director of the SPbGASU Soil Testing Center.

The center has modern equipment, including unique Russian-made apparatus for laboratory and field soil testing. The studies carried out with its help make it possible to predict how the soil will behave in particular conditions.

For example, the calculation of the density of soil particles is needed in order to design the foundation of a future building.

✔ In addition, the center has everything you need for testing soils at negative temperatures, which is necessary for the development of the Far North. “We are talking not only about soil tests typical for the Arctic, but also about testing building structures, new materials for construction in northern conditions. We have specialists who are interested in these issues,” said Irina Drozdova, SPbGASU vice-rector for research.

Many of the center's specialists are practicing geotechnics with extensive experience. It is planned that by the end of this year the center will pass the certification procedure.
