From 27 to 31 May, the SPbGASU Faculty of Automobile and Road Building held a summer intensive course for students of the engineering motor transport class, launched in 2023 together with school No. 334, St Petersburg.

This is a four-year training program for pupils from 8th to 11th grade. In the 2023/2024 academic year, students successfully mastered the first module, “Mobile robotics on wheels and tracks.” During the summer intensive, they became acquainted with the content of the second module, “Design, maintenance and repair of modern cars”.

The intensive course opened with a thematic class in the laboratory of design and operational properties of the Faculty of Automobile and Road Building. Students completed a decomposition of the car’s structure, compiled a list of its main components, simultaneously repeating the necessary knowledge of mathematics, geometry, physics and chemistry, and received the “Car of the Future” case task for team study during the intensive course.

On the second day, at the training car service of the interdepartmental laboratory at the SPbGASU training site “Krasnoe Selo", during a practical class "Preparing for a summer road trip", the guys got acquainted with the structure of a modern car service, checked the training car for safety parameters on the diagnostic line and received a checklist as a souvenir: a memo on the requirements for technical condition contained in the traffic rules. Of course, there were also races around the site, attended by the SPbGASU auto club.

The third and fourth days included excursions to partner enterprises of the motor transport class. The students visited the EuroAuto Academy and the service station located in the same building, as well as one of the most modern bus depots - the Third Bus Depot of the St Petersburg State Unitary Enterprise Passazhiravtotrans. During the excursions, schoolchildren got acquainted with real production, professions related to ensuring the technical readiness of vehicles, and career prospects. Such information from employers will help them, at the end of the ninth grade, to consciously choose options for further education.

On the last day, the defense of case assignments took place in the building of the Faculty of Automobile and Road Building: students presented their concepts for cars of the future, which proposed various options for using alternative fuels, moving along transport routes, solving environmental problems, and improving the parameters of specific vehicle components. The defense was attended by SPbGASU teachers and invited experts from the industry. The teams received diplomas for winning places, for the will to win and memorable gifts.

In the new school year, students in the motor transport class will study in detail the design of a modern car and acquire maintenance and repair skills. At the end of the second module, students who have successfully completed the program will receive certificates of the profession of a worker, the position of an employee with the qualification “car repairman” of the first category.
