The Head of the SPbGASU Scientific School, Corresponding Member of RAASN, DSc in Engineering, Professor Rashid Mangushev and a PhD student of our university from Bolivia Alanoka Chambi Cesar Alfonso took part in the 17th Latin American International Conference on Soil Mechanics, Geotechnics and Engineering-Geological Surveys and the 2nd Latin American Regional Conference of the International Association of Engineering Geology and the Environment IAEG in La Serena, Chile.
Rashid Abdullovich Mangushev presented a report in English on the topic of an innovative approach to geotechnical monitoring of historical buildings for the purpose of their preservation and safe execution of excavation works.
The report aroused great interest among the conference participants and an active discussion of methods for preserving historical buildings and monuments in megalopolises. The methods of strengthening foundations and bases presented in the report, developed by the SPbGASU Department of Geotechnics and used in St Petersburg, may well be applicable in the historical centers of Latin American cities.
In his speech, Cesar Alanoka presented the materials of the research conducted by him at the SPbGASU Department of Geotechnics on the topic of ensuring seismic stability of high-rise buildings on weak soils. The topic turned out to be original and also aroused great interest among the specialists gathered.
