On 23 October, the Arctic Personnel Workshop, a career guidance event organized by the Committee for Arctic Affairs of the Government of St Petersburg, was held in the PetroCongress center in St Petersburg. Students and postgraduates of the SPbGASU Department of Architectural Design took an active part in it.

A total of 11 universities of the Northern capital participated in the event. SPbGASU stood out in this row with relevant and well-executed projects of Architecture students dedicated to the cities of the Arctic zone of Russia.

The aims of the event were to attract the interest of young people in the development of Arctic territories and to train personnel in specialties that are in demand in the Arctic zone.

"St Petersburg continues to build up the potential of scientific, industrial and educational competencies for the implementation of strategic projects in the Arctic region. Personnel issues, issues of training and motivation of young specialists play one of the defining roles in solving these problems," noted Vladimir Knyagin, Vice-Governor of St Petersburg, in his speech at the opening.

Chairman of the St Petersburg Committee for Arctic Affairs German Shirokov emphasized that career guidance not only introduces students to Arctic professions and competencies, but together with representatives of universities provides an opportunity to see with their own eyes what various specialists do in the Arctic, and to think about getting one of the “northern” professions.

After the grand opening, the workshop participants began working in thematic blocks. The events were held in an interactive format, involving active participation of schoolchildren and students in brainstorming, team debates, and business games. The SPbGASU stand and presentation were prepared by third-year students of the Faculty of Architecture Stanislava Kuzmina, Ilya Rezaikin, and Anastasia Vikarchuk. The guys professionally presented the bachelor's and master's programs of the Faculty of Architecture, dedicated to polar topics and student expeditions to the Arctic zone of Russia.

As part of the scientific and technological block, participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with thematic projects carried out by SPbGASU master's students for Arctic cities. The project for the development of the city and public center of Monchegorsk was presented by Viktoria Ivanova, a second-year master's student of the Department of Architectural Design. The second report on the results of the research and implementation of the experimental project was made by Alena Kuznetsova. The project is dedicated to the design of a tourist quarter in Severodvinsk and was tested during a research expedition of students of the Department of Architectural Design to Arkhangelsk and Severodvinsk.

The experts, representatives of relevant authorities and organizations of St Petersburg, scientists and researchers whose professional activities are related to training personnel in specialties in demand in the implementation of Arctic projects, highly appreciated the students' works. SPbGASU students received diplomas of the St Petersburg Committee for Arctic Affairs.
