SPbGASU Started an International Summer School on the Renovation of Public Spaces in St Petersburg

On 17 July, SPbGASU started its annual international summer school “Renovation of public spaces in St Petersburg (from architectural sketch to 3D model).

On the first day of the school, the head of the International Summer School (ISS), Associate Professor at the SPbGASU Department of Architectural and Engineering Constructions, PhD of Architecture Olga Pastukh introduced the participants to various stylistic trends in the architecture of St Petersburg, and also reminded them of the basics of sketching compositions and colors.

During the tour of the funds of the fundamental library, students got acquainted with the original author's drawings and architectural projects, made in manual graphics by famous graduates of our university of the past centuries. In the mock-up studio and workshops of the SPbGASU Department of Drawing they saw the best works of graduates and students of the SPbGASU Faculty of Architecture of different years.

Within two weeks, students from Voronezh, Krasnoyarsk, Samara, St Petersburg, Tula and Algeria will have a rich program that includes not only a graphic plein air in a big city along the developed thematic routes, but also the design of a small architectural form participating in the renovation project of the public space of one of existing industrial locations within the so-called "Grey Belt" of St Petersburg. 

Mentored by curators - experienced and young teachers of specialized departments of the SPbGASU Faculties of Architectural and Civil Engineering - participants will get acquainted with the stylistic diversity of the architecture of St Petersburg from different eras, listen to lectures, develop a three-dimensional model of small architectural forms in the laboratory of digital building information models.

Teachers will conduct practical classes in the format of an urban plein air on thematic routes developed by the head of international summer school.

The result of the first week of city plein airs should be the replenishment of the creative portfolio of the school participants with sketches of iconic architectural objects of the city, created using various graphic materials and sketching techniques.

At the beginning of the second week of the summer school, students will receive a design assignment and a site map. They will have a chance to work in a team and demonstrate their practical skills in sketching, designing, modeling and layout. The participants will present the results of the work in the final presentations at the closing ceremony of the international summer school.
