On 20-25 May, the St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering hosted the III All-Russian round of the competition of final qualifying works in the fields of study 08.03.01, 08.04.01 Civil engineering, training profiles “Highways and airfields”, “Road bridges and tunnels”, according to specialties 08.05.01 Construction of unique buildings and structures, specialization “Construction of highways, airfields and special structures” and 08.05.02 Construction, operation, restoration and technical cover of highways, bridges and tunnels, specialization “Construction (reconstruction), operation and technical cover of highways".

The competition was attended by students of construction universities from Moscow, Kazan, Vologda, Krasnoyarsk, Belgorod, Ivanovo, Rostov-on-Don, Ekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Volgograd and other Russian cities. Based on the results of the II (regional) rounds, 219 final qualifying works were sent from 28 Russian universities to SPbGASU.

The competition was held in 20 nominations. Each final work was reviewed by members of the jury and assessed using a point system. Points were awarded for the achievements of the competitors in testing the results of their work, such as publication of articles, educational and methodological literature, participation in exhibitions, competitions, olympiads, reports at conferences, presence of patents for inventions and utility models.

In each nomination, the three works that scored the most points took prizes, and their authors were awarded diplomas.

Our university students received five diplomas, three of which were for first place. In the nomination “Engineering of highways in difficult conditions” in the specialties 08.05.01 Construction of unique buildings and structures, specialization “Construction of highways, airfields and special structures” and 08.05.02 Construction, operation, restoration and technical coverage of highways, bridges and tunnels, specialization “Construction (reconstruction), operation and technical coverage of highways” was won by graduate Yulia Rudakova (supervisor – Head of the Department of Roads, Bridges and Tunnels Maria Klekovkina).

In the nomination “Design of major repairs and reconstruction of highways” the best was Grigory Tenitsky (supervisor – Head of the Department of Roads, Bridges and Tunnels Maria Klekovkina).

In the nomination “Engineering of highways in difficult conditions” in the field of study 08.04.01 Civil engineering, profile “Roads”, first place was taken by Aleksandra Chistyakova (supervisor - Associate Professor at the Department of Roads, Bridges and Tunnels Aleksandr Simanovsky). In her work on the topic “Construction of light embankments on a weak foundation,” Aleksandra Chistyakova studied the dependence of the settlement of a light embankment on the slope of the mineral bottom of the weak foundation and a number of other factors when calculating its final settlement. The author conducted a full factorial experiment, based on the results of which she proposed a method for taking into account the slope of the mineral bottom using the derived regression equation. The analysis of the experimental results is presented in graphical form - in two-dimensional and three-dimensional space, which clearly reflects the results of the dependence of the coefficient derived by the author and the operating parameters of the roadbed.

In the nomination “Repair and maintenance of transport structures on roads” in the field of study 08.04.01 Civil engineering, profile “Roads” Oleg Kozlov became third (supervisor - senior lecturer at the Department of Roads, Bridges and Tunnels Anna Simonova).

In the nomination “Engineering of highways”, third place was taken by Pavel Platonov in the specialties 08.05.01 Construction of unique buildings and structures, specialization “Construction of highways, airfields and special structures” and 08.05.02 Construction, operation, restoration and technical coverage of highways, bridges and tunnels, specialization “Construction (reconstruction), operation and technical cover of highways” (supervisor - senior lecturer at the Department of Roads, Bridges and Tunnels Denis Denisenko).
