
On 21 November, the LXXVIII International Scientific and Practical Conference "Architecture - Construction - Transport - Economics" began its work at SPbGASU. Its co-organizers, together with our university, were the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences and the Russian Engineering Academy.

On behalf of the SPbGASU Rector Evgeny Rybnov, the conference participants were welcomed at the plenary session by the Vice-Rector for Research Evgeny Korolev, who noted that in modern society, architecture, construction and transport play a key role in economic development. They serve as the basis for creating a comfortable and safe living environment, ensure the mobility of the population and contribute to the prosperity of business. In the context of rapid changes caused by both technological development and geopolitics, these industries require constant updating of knowledge and skills.
Evgeny Valerievich reported that the conference would present the latest research and developments reflecting modern trends and achievements in the field of architecture and construction, transport and economics. Participants will discuss the prospects for the development of these areas, as well as opportunities for cooperation, exchange of experience between scientists and specialists from different scientific schools.
According to the Vice-Rector, the conference at SPbGASU brought together almost 700 researchers and specialists from 32 cities in Russia and 8 foreign countries – this indicates that the university’s research is generating genuine interest and support from the scientific and professional community.

Dmitry Shvidkovsky, President of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences, wished success to the conference participants. According to Dmitry Olegovich, SPbGASU maintains traditions and, at the same time, creates something new, which evokes the respect of colleagues.

Director of the Institute for Traffic Safety, Professor at the SPbGASU Department of Land Transport and Technological Machines and moderator of the plenary session Sergey Evtyukov read out a welcoming speech by the President of the All-Russian public organization "Russian Engineering Academy" Boris Gusev. The text of the message said that the conference is an important event for the construction industry of Russia. It considers a wide range of topical issues, from the theory and history of architecture to the development of modern transport and road safety, paying close attention to architecture, the development of the Arctic territory, concepts of urban development of various cities, the restoration of cultural heritage sites, the use of new building materials and structures. A discussion is underway of new solutions to current issues in water purification, improvement of engineering systems, the introduction of information modeling technologies, etc.

Head of the Department for Preservation of the Historical Environment of the Committee for State Control, Use and Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments of St Petersburg Ekaterina Kozyreva shared her thoughts on the name of the conference. In her opinion, although it may seem that such different fields are incompatible, in fact, an integrated approach leads to good results.

Marina Andreeva, Head of the Scientific and Educational Work Department of the St Petersburg Committee for Arctic Affairs, read out a welcoming address from the Committee Chairman German Shirokov. German Germanovich noted that the conference focuses on the architectural appearance of northern cities, the use of modular, adaptive and flexible solutions in their construction, the preservation of cultural heritage sites of the Russian North, and the digitalization of the construction industry. The conference will be an important step in consolidating opinions on promising areas for the development of the architectural and construction industry in the Arctic.

Director of the St Petersburg State Institution "Center for Information Support of Urban Development Activities" of the Committee for Urban Development and Architecture of St Petersburg and a graduate of LISI (SPbGASU) in 1983 Rudolf Tov expressed gratitude to his alma mater, conveyed best wishes from the chairperson of the committee Yulia Kiseleva, and read out a greeting from the first deputy chairperson of the committee - chief architect of St Petersburg Pavel Sokolov. The message reported that over the years of its existence, the conference has made a significant contribution to the development of the construction industry of the Northern capital. The professional event has become a popular platform for exchanging experiences, demonstrating best practices, and searching for ideas for future research. The head of the committee believes that today St Petersburg is going through an important stage of development. At the beginning of the year, a new general plan for the city came into force, defining promising areas of growth until 2050. Mega-projects of regional and federal significance are being implemented, designed to significantly improve the urban environment and create comfortable living conditions for people, improve the socio-economic indicators of the region as a whole. Such ambitious tasks require not only qualified specialists, but also modern scientific approaches and advanced developments in all industries.
In his greeting, Pavel Sergeevich emphasized that the Committee for Urban Development and Architecture and SPbGASU have long-standing partnership relations, and expressed hope for the continuation of fruitful cooperation, which will certainly result in new interesting projects, improvement of urban development processes and the regulatory framework in the industry to achieve the best results in the development of St Petersburg.
Rector of the Novosibirsk State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (SIBSTRIN) Yuri Skolubovich outlined the range of problems and tasks facing the industry and called on employers to pay more attention to young people and domestic scientific developments.
